PHMAT Parent Newsletter Summer Term 2023

Celebrations for our New King

Lots of lovely activities took place in all of our schools to celebrate the Coronation of our new King Charles III.

Tillington Manor Primary children took part in a whole-school assembly and some children even acted out the different roles from the ceremony. Children later enjoyed a celebratory lunch and a big school party.

Year 3 children at Berrybrook children were lucky to be invited to join the celebrations at the Big Venture as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh (Prince Edward and Sophie) visited to see all of the good work that goes on at the centre. Waving their flags high, the children were extremely excited and welcomed at the Duke and Duchess with great gusto, with some even having the opportunity to chat with the visitors!

Mesty Croft's mantra in school was to 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle', in order to pursue the legacy and passion of King Charles III. Children were invited to bring old clothes into school and brought in items from their recycling to be used for planting seeds which they took home to grow. Children also made crowns and flags using items they brought in from their home recycling.

Perry Hall children were lucky to receive a commemorative coronation coin, organised by the PTA to help children remember this once in a lifetime event. All children in school learnt about the significance of the coronation and created their own proclamation for the new King and created a biography of King Charles III.

As a fundraising activity, Stanley Road children created a self portrait which was put onto a special tea towel to mark the Coronation.

The hall at Woodthorne Primary was decorated with artwork, bunting and decorations which every member of their school community contributed to.

All of our schools enjoyed an abundance of celebratory lunches, picnics and parties where children dressed in red, white and blue. Where the weather was kind, some schools were lucky enough to enjoy their celebrations outside, others enjoyed their celebrations indoors.

PHMAT Art Competition

A wonderful selection of artwork was entered into our PHMAT Art Competition by children in all year groups across the Trust. The executive team had an extremely difficult task of selecting the winning pieces, which now beautifully adorn the walls of the Berrybrook Business Suite offices and training room. A big 'well done' to all children who took part and special thanks goes out to Julie Mair who ran the competition and arranged for the winning selection to be mounted and framed.

Don't they look lovely!

What else has been happening this half term?

Perry Hall Primary Wednesfield in Bloom

The 7th July 2023 marked judging day for this year’s Wednesfield in Bloom competition for which the whole Wednesfield community pulls together each year. This year, Wednesfield Primary Schools were tasked with creating two scarecrows: Perry Hall produced a lady scarecrow reading a book and a Paddington Bear scarecrow - didn't they look fantastic! Scarecrows from all of local schools were placed around Wednesfield village to be enjoyed by visitors.

World Music Day Celebrations at Dunstall Hill Primary

The Tillington Manor Year 5 and Year 6 show of Cinderella and Rockerfella was just fabulous. Amazing actors and actresses, a brilliant choir and lots of laughs along the way - well done to them all!

Disco Time for Bird's Bush Primary

On Thursday 13th July Bird's Bush held a disco, organised by their newly formed PTA. 'Team Birds Bush' worked phenomenally hard to pull together the first of the end of year school discos, their first event. School would like to say on behalf of all the children who attended, a huge 'thank you' to the PTA, parents and staff who helped. This has been the first collaboration (for a number of years) between staff and parents and it truly was a success! The children had a fantastic time and were very well behaved and are all very much looking forward to the next event!

Faith Celebrations for Sledmere Primary School

Sledmere Primary School recently hosted their annual Faith City celebration, an event that has been hosted by the school for over 20 years. Children in KS2 took part in learning about different faiths, working in small and engaging in workshops where visitors represented and presented on different faiths. This included presentations about Christianity, Sikhism, Judaism and Islam. In addition to this, as part of the Faith City event, children in KS2 visit different places of worship and were inspired to ask many questions that supported them to develop their knowledge and understanding of other religious beliefs.

Happy Holidays!

As another academic year comes to a close, I would like to wish all of our staff, children and their families a wonderful Summer break. I would also like to wish our year 6 leavers all the very best as they embark on their journey into secondary education.

As always, thank you to our families for all of your ongoing support as everything we do would not be possible without your partnership.
