Holme Junior & Infant School Welcome Back!

InTRODUCTION

Welcome to our new look newsletter! These will replace the Wednesday Weekly. We will have one per month that will keep our families and local community up to date with the goings on at Holme, but also celebrate our achievements in school. A link to our newsletter will be sent out to parents and also be available as a link through our Facebook page.

This is our introductory newsletter with a September newsletter following shortly, which will have further information about what is happening in and around school during the month.

After a first successful week as Interim Headteacher at Holme, I would like to say thank you to everyone in the Holme Junior & Infant School community for making me feel extremely welcome and from my point of view, it has been thoroughly enjoyable getting to know everyone involved with Holme. Rest assured that I am fully invested in the school and your children. I look forward to embarking on this journey together!

welcome miss talbot and mr hooley

It's with great pleasure that I introduce our new School Business Officer, Miss Talbot, and our new Caretaker and Minibus Driver, Mr Hooley. Both members of staff have fitted very well into the life of the Holme School community and I thought it would be fitting that they share a little more about them. Please don't hesitate to say hello if you see them in the office or out and about!

Hello, my name is Miss Helen Talbot and I am the new Business Support Officer at Holme. I am very excited to be starting with you and this is actually my first role within a school setting.

I was born in Wolverhampton but have been living in the local area for the last 15 years. I live with my daughter who also attends a local junior school as well as my partner.

My background is predominantly retail management but for the last 7 years I have been working in an administrative role in a very busy doctors' surgery. In my spare time I love walking, crafting, swimming and spending time with my family.

I hope you’ll find that I am a very positive person and keen to help raise the profile of the school and help with any queries that you have. It’s a very exciting time to be joining the school and I look forward to meeting you all over the coming weeks.

Hi, I’m Jason Hooley, the new school caretaker and I’m very much looking forward to working with the Holme School community.

I’m a family man with three children and four, soon to be five grandchildren! I have four French bulldogs which take up a lot of my time, and I’m a huge rugby league fan! My son has just signed with Leeds Rhinos.

If you see me around, please say hello and introduce yourself.

facebook

You may have noticed this week we have utilised our Facebook page a little more. We will be using the platform to keep our community up to date with what is happening in Holme School, which will include weekly updates from class teachers and regular updates from me. We will also be focussing on personal development and celebration as the year progresses, so watch out for weekly superstars from our celebration assembly coming your way from this half term!

It's been a busy summer break here at Holme and as such we are embarking on designing a refreshed curriculum. We will be utilising a system called Curriculum Maestro as a foundation to what we teach and as the year progresses making this increasingly bespoke to the needs of all children at Holme. We want a curriculum that is ambitious and challenging for all children and throughout the year the curriculum will be one of our major focus areas. As such we will also be updating our website over the coming term with much more information about our curriculum, including sequencing and progression. As a parent this will give you key information about what your child will learn throughout their Holme journey. Curriculum newsletters will still be published on the website as they were previously, but please bear with us as we embark on this exciting journey!

During the year, we will also be offering opportunities for parents to work with children during the school day and workshops where you will be able to learn more about our English, maths and foundation subjects curriculum. We will also offer parental information workshops at key points before statutory tests, so you, as well as the children know what to expect and are able to support at home. As a school we are also keen to involve our families in sharing the learning of children through open book evenings, parents' evenings and a formal report. Keep an eye on future newsletters for further information!

Celebration assemblies

From next week we will be celebrating the achievements of our children through a celebration assembly. These assemblies will allow children to be awarded for excellent achievement and effort in different areas of school life. At the moment these will include:

  • The 'Honour of Holme' Headteacher's Award
  • Reading Star
  • Writer of the Week
  • Maths Mogul
  • Class Attendance

The 'Honour of Holme' award winners will spend time reflecting on their successful week with me before assembly with a well-earned hot chocolate and biscuits!

Community assemblies will resume shortly. Please keep an eye on the next newsletter for further information!

Shine Bright Board

During this half term we will be developing a display in school which celebrates the achievements of our children outside of school. These could be to do with music, sports, fundraising... the possibilities are endless! If your child has an achievement we are very keen to know and share it with the rest of our community in school through our shine bright board and celebration assemblies!

Meet mr bond

Fancy a brew and a chat? Mrs Stephenson our Chair of Governors and I will be hosting a coffee afternoon in the school hall on Friday 16th September from 2:15pm until 3:15pm. Feel free to drop by and say hello! This will give you as parents an opportunity to meet me, discuss any compliments or concerns you may have and allow us to form a mutual relationship that will allow our school and ultimately the children to grow. If you are unable to make it but would like to have a chat, I am always available in school Tuesday to Friday and more than happy to arrange an informal meeting or have a telephone conversation. Please get in touch!

queen Elizabeth ii

You will by now know about the sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. As preparations are being made for the mourning of her passing nationally, we are awaiting official guidance from the Department for Education regarding how schools will celebrate her reign and life. I can assure you that over the coming weeks the children will learn more about what she has done for the United Kingdom and the world. We also recognise that some of our children will be deeply affected by this news and we will support your children emotionally through what may be a tricky time.
