Welcome back! Week 1

This week we welcomed back Year 1 with some fantastic new learning.

In RE this week, we have been learning about what God’s job is in many different religions. On Monday, we looked at Allah’s 99 names and thought about the jobs associated with some of those names.

On Tuesday, the children learnt the Jewish story all about Abraham and the promise that God gave to him. We spoke about Abraham’s special relationship with God, what a promise means and how it is important to keep a promise. We then discussed about God’s job being a creator and a provider in the story. Afterwards, our task was to design a paper chain about the story. We did this so when we joined each part together, this represented the first promise being shared with every generation of Jewish people.

On Wednesday we learnt the Christian story of Jesus calming the storm. We spoke about Jesus’ job in the story and what a miracle is. After, we designed our own boat from the story and stuck down descriptions of Jesus on it.

Finally, on Thursday we learnt about a new religion, Hinduism! We spoke about The Trimurti that consists of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu who all have the job of creating, caretaking and destroying.

In Maths, some of the children have been using dienes to count numbers beyond 20. We have been playing a new game to help with our counting and we love it!

In Music, we explored different musical instruments and rhythms. In PE we had fun doing dance and gymnastics!

Well done everyone for a great first week back!
