Portola Valley Weekly Update September 8, 2022

Register for Zotts to Tots Family Fun Run and Bike Race

Back by popular demand, Zotts to Tots will be held on Saturday, September 17 at 10 am, followed by the Town Picnic from 11 am to 3 pm.

Zotts to Tots is a family fun run for runners and bikers of all ages. It starts at Rossotti's Alpine Inn and goes 2.4 miles up Alpine Road, down Portola Road to just before Portola Valley Town Center.

Zotts to Tots has been a Portola Valley tradition for over 20 years. Does anyone remember what it was called before it was Zotts to Tots?

We also still need volunteers along the race route. If you are interested you can learn more here.

Study Session on Sheriff’s Office Contract Update

The Town’s 5-year contract with the Sheriff’s Office for police services expires at the end of June 2023. In order to receive input from the community and discuss the contract update (to be led by Vice Mayor Wernikoff and Councilmember Aalfs), the Town Council will hold a study session at its October 26, 2022 meeting. Relevant committees have been requested to place the item on their agendas for October to support this discussion as well.

Public Open Houses: Hawthorns Area Plan

The Hawthorns Area is a 79-acre property that is part of Windy Hill Open Space Preserve located within the Town of Portola Valley and owned by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen). The property is currently closed to the public.

Midpen is offering both in-person and virtual public open houses this fall to introduce more people to the project. Please drop by either session to connect with Midpen staff and share your input.

In 2021, Midpen initiated a multiyear process to develop the Hawthorns Area Plan, which will establish resource management goals, identify long-term land management activities and introduce ecologically sensitive public access to the Hawthorns Area. Midpen is now collecting information to characterize existing conditions at the Hawthorns Area and hopes to receive public input on key considerations for the property. Based on the information received, Midpen would identify priorities for long-term management of the property.
