In our English lessons this week, we began our work on play-scripts. We started with looking at the features of scripts and trying to read them properly.
In the next lesson, we refreshed our memories of our previous class reader, The Sheep Pig. They had to try order the chapters and match the summary to each one. We then used this to create the structure for our class play which is based on the book! The children had some fantastic ideas.
Maths: Shapes
In maths, we have been learning about shapes. To refresh our memories from the previous week, we played a matching memory game where the children worked in pairs and had to find the shape and then match it with the correct name.
Following on from this, the class practiced their drawing of different shapes. It was really important that they used their ruler to keep their lines straight and connect the crosses correctly.
Music: Boomwhackers
In music, we have continued to rehearse our songs for the Christmas performance. We started by singing the different songs and then going through our class song on the boomwhackers. Only one more music lesson before the performance!
DT: Structures
We started our DT project this term about structures. We are going to be making a castle so for this first lesson, it was important to ensure we learnt the key features of a castle.
Science: Animals, including humans
In science, the class completed an assessment. They firstly had to try draw a skeleton from memory. After, the children used different secondary sources, mainly books, to then draw another skeleton. The second drawings showed significant improvement and there was lots of accurate details.
In the next science lesson, we were learning about the different joints in our body. We focused on the joints in our hands and the importance of these. To help demonstrate the joints, the children tried to create their own model of a hand. This was really tricky to do and helped demonstrate how intricate our hands are!
Maths use and apply: Making snowflakes
As part of our learning in maths, we used our knowledge of shapes and lines of symmetry to try and create a snowflake. The aim was for this snowflake to have 6 lines of symmetry - much harder than it sounds!
Festive fun!
It was the start of a few festivities within the class this week. The children came into school on Monday and the class was decorated. There was also a few surprises left by a special Miss Winter Mouse who have visited our class. We then had Christmas jumper day and the Christmas fair on Friday!
