BASE A video installation about the American military base in Keflavik Iceland.

A five-screen video installation about the American military base in Keflavik, Iceland. The installation was first exhibited at The Living Art Museum in Reykjavik, Iceland, from October to November 2003. It was later shown at Nordatlantens Brygge in Copenhagen in 2005, and at the Former KGB headquarters in Riga, Latvia in 2014, in conjunction with the '(Re)construction of Friendship' exhibition. (In cooperation with Spessi.)

Around 4,000 Americans live and work on the base, which was established in 1943. The base serves a specific strategic purpose and is an isolated military entity. However, it also caters to the needs of the families living there, and has all the amenities of an American small town. We spent four weeks on the base in September-October 2003, accompanied at all times by officers from the public affairs office. Despite this, all of our requests were granted. During our stay, we followed military personnel on their ordinary workdays, met their families and friends, and filmed in various places across the base, including the school, daycare center, restaurants, barbershops, and bowling alleys.

The five screens are synchronized, and the installation has a looping time of 40 minutes. The size of the installation may vary. Additionally, one of the monitor continuously displays a radar image over Iceland throughout the installation.
