UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #8

Pre/K1: Looking after ourselves - We have been focusing a lot on our wellbeing. During our circle time we have been sharing our feelings and emotions and how we can express them. Learners have been great communicators and know who they need to talk to when they are worried or anxious about something.
Y1: Creative afternoon - To kick start our new unit ‘how we express ourselves’, we held a creative afternoon to provide the children with different ways they can be creative. We had so much fun! We tried canvas painting, Christmas cookie decorating, Thai dancing, body painting, playing games and candle making. Thank you to all the Year 1 families who took part in this event. We created some wonderful memories together.
Y3: Art perspectives - Year 3 has begun our third UOI. The central idea is ‘People use the arts to express how they are special and different’. We began by focusing on the key concept of perspective. The students all contributed to an Art/Mood Board stating their perspective about arts, what they liked and why. We looked forward to seeing if anyone’s perspective changes over the course of this unit as we learn about, and experience, different forms of art.
Y5/6: Christmas has arrived - An important life lesson is, “How do people around the world express themselves?” We have begun to investigate the different aspects of artistic expression, such as; dance music, visual arts and fashion. This week we have been looking at paintings and discussing how they make us feel. We have also begun our Christmas celebrations by putting up our Christmas tree. 🙂
Y9/10: Relaxing after exams - After a very hard and challenging assessment week. The Y9/10 could enjoy a bit of fresh air during their lunch break and shake away their stress with a bit of frivolity. This is a great way for the learners to celebrate being balanced.
Student success: Y7/8 service as action - As part of the Integrated Arts class, the Year 7/8 students have taken part in a services as action activity where they were able to teach the Year 4 class about their research into the many different genres of music that exist from around the world. This was a great opportunity to share their learning with the wider UDIS school community.

EAL: Learning about adjectives

We have begun learning about simple adjectives. We listened to the adjectives song to help us remember the words. We had a go at matching words and pictures online before writing our own sentences. We also played an exciting adjectives game called Space Evaders for our speaking practise.

Our Executive School Board

Our School Board meets for the second time on Friday to plan and prepare for our next academic year. A key task this year has been putting together our new strategic plan for 2023-2028. It is exciting to envision where we will be in 5 years time. What we do know is that our DP programme will be well underway as we will open for Year 12 in 2024.
