EMPATHIZE
Our target audience is the students at our university (Cyprus University of Technology), between the age of 18-25 years old, regardless of gender. The number one thing that students do every day is buy food and beverages, without considering that this causes a problem for the environment. Our university in collaboration with the church Metropole (main student cafeteria), has arranged daily lunches to offer food for students. Overall, they are in a rush, they have little time to consider the use of plastic and they do not it or recycle it. They might have lessons, study in the library or have to walk long distances to attend classes. Some students realise the seriousness of this problem and they do not do anything practical to solve the problem.
DEFINE
The students who are using single-use plastics do not realize the serious impact that it has on the environment. We have so many examples and one of them is so close to us. The student cafeteria offers food in single-use plastics. Unfortunately, these single-use plastic ends up in the rubbish or all over the floor and is not recycled. This shows a lack of environmental awareness. Every day in our student cafeteria we observe that the most wasted things are cutlery and straws. In addition, there is environmental pollution that can cause diseases. The university does not provide us with any facilities to recycle plastics that students end up throwing away single-use plastics.
IDEATE
