UDIS NEWSLETTER ISSUE #3

K2 class update - This week, K2 has been researching into the lifecycle of a butterfly. They have been fattening up several caterpillars that will hopefully be going into their chrysalis soon. Fingers crossed K2 will be the proud parents of some beautiful butterflies in the not so distant future.
Y2: Who is Florence Nightingale? - Year 2 have been learning about Florence Nightingale and how to write biographies. We learned the story of her life and acted out part of it. We have learned the key features of a biography and started to write our own biographies about Queen Elizabeth II after the sad news of her passing.
Y4: Signs and symbols - Year 4 has been learning about signs and symbols which involved creating a huge map and then using the skills learned to make individual maps. Children have been investigating a range of symbols including Braille, British Sign Language, Road Signs, Roman Numerals, Family Shields, Warning Signage, Flags and Religious Symbols.
Y7/8: Learning about service - The Year 7/8 class along with the Year 9/10 class took part in an IB training session on service as action. This training session will help prepare and inspire the students to take action within the school, and external, communities to make a positive impact.

Student success: Aob-Aoon in Year 1

Aob-Aoon was a risk taker presenting her hobby in our show and tell sessions, which is playing the melodica. She also played a couple of songs. Well done Aob-Aoon and all of Year 1 for your presentations.

Thai: Preparing for Wai Kru

Students have been learning more about Thai as they prepare for Wai Kru Day. They enjoyed exploring the symbols of Wai Kru around the school and they found some flowers and learned the meaning of each one. We also practiced how to do a Wai before the ceremony.

Staff intro: Ms. May in the Middle Years

Hello, I am Ms. May. I am extremely excited to re-join UDIS again this year. I strongly believe that sending good vibes can make someone’s day and I enjoy it. I will do my best to support my beloved pupils and colleagues through my work as a Middle Years Teaching Assistant.

PSPE: Striking skills

Our EY students have been learning about striking skills in PE. They learned how to strike things using a tennis racquet including tennis balls, shuttlecocks and volleyballs. It was a great chance for them to start to develop their hand-eye coordination skills.
