Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy Keeping you informed

April 2023

New Library

We will be running Library sessions on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:15 until 8:45. We invite children to come and read either with an adult from school or with their parents.

Afternoon tea with Mrs Webster

Mrs Webster would like to invite the most improved reader and the pupil with the most reads from each year group to afternoon tea at the end of each half term. If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of, pick up a book from the library today!

Reading Trees

Look out for our reading trees around school. They show how you will grow as a reader throughout your time here.

Bedtime Stories

We have launched our Bedtime Story lending library. Pop into the office to have a look!

Nurture Space

We have improved our nurture area. This is a space where children can go to reflect and have some quiet time.

Our Nurture Space

Playground Routines.

The children have loved the new playground stations at break and lunch. We have skateboarding and space hoppers, art, a small world area, a trim trail, singing, skipping, playground equipment, board games, football, hockey, netball and tennis stations.

Easter Activities

We loved having Bek Homer from BBC Radio York in school to judge our Easter eggs and bonnets on the last day of term. Did you hear us on the radio?

Attendance

We know that sometimes your child may be unable to attend because they feel unwell. In this case, please contact the school office and leave a message telling us the reasons for your child’s absence, by 8:45am each day. Some parents think that their child may be better off at home if they are a bit under the weather but generally we are happy to have them in school and will keep a close eye on them to make sure that they are ok.

If we do not hear from you first thing in the morning and your child is not in school, then we will try and contact you as quickly as possible to ensure that your child is safe. This could be by MCAS, telephone or home visit. Please rest assured that we always pursue this until we are satisfied so you know that your child’s welfare is important to us.

Behaviour

These are our 3 behaviour stages. Pupils receive positive points during lesson time and aim to earn enough points for the Positive Point Friday treat. Pupils who show exemplary behaviour can be placed on the 'wow' star for everyone to see! At lunchtime, pupils receive house points for showing Green behaviour. The house with the most points at the end of term receive a treat.
