EDUCATION CAREERS JOB NEWSLETTER

Online University Options

CSU Chico Online Bachelors or Arts: Liberal Studies

The Liberal Studies Online Option is a degree completion program for students who plan on teaching elementary school or desire a broad-based degree. Upon completion of our program you will have a Bachelor of Arts. If you plan on teaching you will need to enter a credential program before you are ready to teach. At this time Chico State does not offer an online credential program.

Online students interested in the Liberal Arts (Non-teaching) option, will also complete the LBST specific general education course work at a community college and take upper division coursework online at CSU, Chico. In place of education related upper division courses, you may choose one of two minors available online – career and life planning or sociology.

For admission questions please reach out to the liberal studies department at (530) 898-5802 or via email at lbst1@csuchico.edu.

CalStateTeach-Online Multiple Subject Credential Program

CalStateTEACH is the CSU’s system-wide online Multiple Subject Program and one of 23 California Commission on Teacher Credentialing approved teacher preparation programs in the CSU System. The curriculum is delivered online and candidates are placed in classrooms with site mentors in all three terms of the program. Candidates are assigned in cohorts with CalStateTEACH faculty. The program is divided into three terms, each containing 15 semester units of coursework and clinical experience.

The program offers three pathways to the credential

  1. Student Teaching Option
  2. Intern Teacher Option
  3. Employed Private Teacher Option

For questions about the multiple subject credential program, please reach out to CalStateTEACH at (559) 278-0234 or via email at fresno@calstateteach.net.

CalStateTEACH Induction Program

The program is designed for participants who have a Multiple Subject, Single Subjects or Educational Specialist Preliminary Credential and wish to clear their teaching credential but do not otherwise have access to a district/county office or university Induction Program. Based on current CalStateTEACH Preliminary Credential enrollment, it is expected that Induction participants will live in rural areas where it takes a long time to travel to a traditional program or in urban areas where traffic and parking add too much time to their commute to an LEA or university campus.

Collaboration and communication occur both on-site and online with faculty and school-based support. Candidates gain significant personalized support from their assigned faculty Lead Mentors, who orient them and school site personnel to the program, provide Colleague Coach training for effective support, and review their growth in the California Standards for the Profession (CSTP). In addition to the virtual mentoring and collaboration, they receive an average of not less than one hour per week of individualized support at their school site. Their on-site Colleague Coaches, who are credentialed teachers at their school site, provide valuable support and assistance to CalStateTEACH participants.

To apply or learn more about the induction program please contact cstinduction@calstateteach.net or visit the link below.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTS

CRYSTAL MORAN

My name is Crystal Moran and I am majoring in Early childhood development. With the education program offered at Porterville college, I was able to choose a University that was affordable for me and my family and that fit perfectly with my schedule. I had the opportunity to attend the HACU event and learn about different job opportunities offered to first-generation college students.

I am happy to say with the program I was able to meet a lot of great advisors and counselors who helped me through every step of my college journey. With this being said I never thought about applying for scholarships before but with the encouragement of the counselors and advisers, I decided to apply and am proud to say I was able to receive one of the biggest scholarships offered at Porterville College. My experience at Porterville College has been amazing and I can say it has also prepared me for the University and for what my future may hold for me.

My advice is to never be afraid to ask for help and take advantage of all the resources and programs offered at first I was afraid to ask for help and would try to do everything on my own until I started being more involved with the school and the programs and that was the best choice I could have ever done. Being able to be involved with the school has open many doors for me from being a students worker for Porterville college to being able to have the chance to become a sub supervisor for Porterville College swatmeet and getting to meet a lot of great people. Remember don’t be afraid to be involved more and ask for help always take the chance whenever you can even if you doubt it just do it like I did.

Nicholas Britt

My name is Nicholas Britt. My advice to incoming Education Careers student is to utilize the resources Porterville College has to offer. PC offers free tutoring, testing and class accommodations through the Disability Resource Office. Education careers students have access to free laptop rentals, an expansive lending library where you can find books for your classes. If you ever find yourself struggling in classes or with your mental health, please do not hesitate to reach out to a staff member, they are truly here for you and your success.

Special thank you to Ana Ceballos. She was my counselor during my time at Porterville College. I am forever grateful for the support and kindness she provided. She provided me with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that allowed me to be successful and graduate Porterville College with honors.

Thanks to the education and support opportunities I received at Porterville College, I am now currently working in the Student Services division at Porterville College where I can now provide students with the same support I received.
