PUPIL FREE DAYS 2023
- Monday 6th November - Report writing day
2023 TERM DATES
- Term 3: 10th July - 15th September (2:30pm finish)
- Term 4: 2nd October - 20th December (1:30pm finish)
WORKING BEE Sunday promises to be a productive day as we focus our Term 3 working bee on the Grade 3 and 4 classroom area and in particular our vegie patch at ‘Jilinga Gardens’. We have lots to do with kick off around 9am on Sunday. Please access the site from the Martin’s Lane entry point. A sausage sizzle morning tea/lunch will be provided and I hope to see you there.
FOUNDATION TO 2 CROSS COUNTRY A fun morning was had on Tuesday with the annual cross country event for the younger children on our school oval. The children looked great in their house colours and participated in a run that covered two laps of the oval (Grade 2) or one lap (Grades 1 and Foundation). We hope you enjoyed watching and they enjoyed participating and thanks to the staff for organising the event, complete with medals and ribbons!
SPORTING ACHIEVEMENT Congratulations to Cruz Trounce (Grade 6Y) who has been selected in the state Under 12 hockey team. Cruz plays for the Greensborough Hockey Club (most often as centre half) and will be heading to Newcastle in September with the state team. Cruz is pictured in action here and we wish him all the very best, not only with this opportunity but in the future with his chosen sport.
BUILDING UPDATES Thank you to the community for your continued support with our building works, including tolerance to road closures and responsibility with safety issues regarding parking and pedestrian traffic. This week saw the craning in of roof trusses and curved lintels as the administration building continues to take shape. It is a constant source of interest to our students who see the progress on the site each day, and of just as much interest to our staff. Next term, you will see a somewhat different general office and administration area which will only be accessible from the main door near the shade sail/seat area. These arrangements will change from Cup Day when administration will move to the STEM classroom near the Winston Road gate for the remainder of 2023, allowing for demolition of the main building to proceed. As these critical dates draw nearer, I will publish diagrams and further advice in this newsletter but for now a ‘heads-up’ !!
Have a great weekend.
Kind regards,
Bill Kersing

VOLUNTEERING AT VIEWBANK - CHILD SAFETY OBLIGATIONS Just a reminder that all volunteers at our school need to have a current Working With Children Check and have completed, signed and returned the VPS Child Safety Standards Induction Checklist 2023, which is available on the school website.
Our Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy outlines the requirements for volunteers in order to volunteer at school or at a school organised event such as Athletics day, an excursion or school camp.
All volunteers are required to comply with our Volunteers Policy, which describes how we assess the suitability of prospective volunteers and outlines expectations in relation to child safety and wellbeing induction and training, and supervision and management.
If you wish to volunteer in the future -
Please read the following policies and documents available on the school website or from the school office-
- VPS Child Safety and Wellbeing Policy
- VPS Child Safety Code of Conduct
- VPS Child Safety Responding and Reporting Obligations Policy and Procedures
- Four Critical Actions – Child Abuse
- Volunteers Policy
Watch the Child Safety Standards Volunteers Training PowerPoint available on the school website, under the Child Safety Policies heading.
Complete, sign and return the VPS Child Safety Standards Induction Checklist 2023, available on the school website. This form can be emailed to the school or sent back to the school office.

EARLY LEAVERS PROCEDURES Parents are required to come to the office when collecting their child early from school. The Office Staff will ring the classroom and ask for your child to come to the office with their bag. Children are only to be collected by their parent from the front Office (not the classroom or the school yard). This will minimise disruptions to the children's learning and avoid teachers being unaware students have been collected by a parent during recess and lunch.
LATE ARRIVALS Please ensure children who arrive late go straight to the office to be marked as present. If the child does not come to the office for a late pass a text message will be sent to the parent/carer notifying that the child is absent. Late arrivals can only be time stamped at the office. When Parents/carers record the late arrival in Compass it provides us with the explanation but does not mark your child as present. When your child presents at the office, staff will record your child’s actual arrival time which updates the class roll.
WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC) A ‘Working with Children Check’ is just one part of creating and maintaining a child-safe environment. It is a requirement that all parents/careers who wish to volunteer or participate in school activities have a current WWCC. https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/
Kind regards,
Lucy Addati
