Dumplings are a delicious, simple food that is a staple of Chinese food in both America and Asia. They're tasty, easy to make, and very filling.
The first step is to gather the ingredients. For this you'll need 4 cups flour, ½ a pound of ground pork, 2 cups green onions, 2 cups cabbage, ¾ cups carrots, 1 cup onions, 6 cloves of garlic, 2 teaspoons of salt and water. (about 1 ¼ cups total). Trader Joe's sells bags containing the cabbage, onions and carrots in a pre-prepared mixture. You can use 2 cups of this for the next step.
The first step is to dice the cabbage, carrots, and onions into small pieces.
Next, chop up the two cups of green onions. Be sure to remove the tops and bottoms.
Chop up six cloves of garlic and mix it with the diced vegetables in a bowl. Add in the ground beef and divide it into chunks. Make sure the chunks aren't too large or they won't fit into the bun. Be sure to wash your hands before and after this! You'll want to add around 1/2 pound of ground beef.
Mix four cups of flour with around one and a fourth cups of water and a teaspoon of salt. You'll have to use your hands to knead it together into dough. This will be used for the skin.
Break off pieces of the dough and roll them into balls about a few inches in diameter. Using a rolling pin, roll the balls into flat, roughly circular pieces. They don't have to be perfect. Make sure not to stack these on top of each other, or they'll stack together.
Place the mixture of meat and vegetables inside the dough. Make sure the serving isn't too large or you won't be able to seal it up properly.
Dip your finger in water and run it along one half of the outer edge of the dough. This will make it sticky. Roll it up and press the wet end against the dry end to seal it together.
In a pan, fry the dumplings over cooking oil for a few minutes until you notice then bottoms beginning to brown. When this happens, add some water and place a lid on top of the pan, reduce the temperature to low and wait for about five minutes.
Your dumplings are now ready to eat. Enjoy!
