Making waves (and jam sandwiches!) Week 4

What a fantastic week we've had in Year 1! This week, we’ve been unleashing our creativity in Art.

In Art, we’ve been focusing on mark making and learning that lines can be so much more than just straight ones. We studied the work of Bridget Riley, who showed us how exciting drawing lines can be. On Monday, we filled our sketchbooks with different types of lines and chose our favourite to draw on black paper with white chalk – the results were great!

On Tuesday, we listened to music to inspire us as we created flowing wave patterns.

By Thursday, we were ready to experiment with different media, creating unique shape compositions full of colour and imagination.

In English, we swapped paintbrushes for butter knives and got hands-on with some fun learning! As part of our focus on instruction writing, we made delicious jam sandwiches. The children wrote their very own recipes, then followed their steps to create (and enjoy!) their sandwiches.

In Maths, we’ve been working hard on number recognition and played our first game of number bingo! The children loved it and it was a brilliant way to consolidate our learning while having lots of fun!

It’s been a busy, creative, and delicious week in Year 1 – well done everyone! 🎨🍓🎉
