Dear University community,

Our Summer Sessions continue…and being in a classroom during our continued heatwave is one of the coolest places to be! If heading outdoors during peak heat periods, stay hydrated and apply sunscreen regularly. Hats are a smart way to add additional protection during this record heat.

  • Today and tomorrow, incoming freshmen will begin participation in our traditional Dusty Camp. This two-day student orientation experience prepares students for their first semester here and offers guidance on campus services and academic expectations, and a first-hand experience of student life. More on Dusty Camp is here.

Registration for Summer Session II and Fall is underway. Summer Session II begins Monday, July 10 through Thursday, Aug. 10. The Fall Semester 2023 begins Monday, Aug. 28.

  • TAMIU offices and services close for the July 4 holiday on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Classes are also suspended. Classes and services resume Wednesday, July 5.
  • Would you like a free COVID-19 Testing Kit? Pick them up at the offices of Student Health, and lobby/reception areas in Environmental Health and Safety (inside our Physical Plant) and the University Police Department.
  • A reminder, summer camps are underway on campus, so expect to see some really young faces here. They’re also getting their first experience on a University campus and we welcome them to TAMIU!

Here's to a great week, Dustdevils!

- Pablo Arenaz, Ph.D., President

TAMIU Faculty Member Receives RGISC Vaughan Educator of the Year Award

Dr. Puneet Gill was recently named the recipient of the RGISC’s Dr. Tom Vaughan Educator of the Year Community Award. The Award recognizes outstanding contributions and dedication that have made a significant impact.

"It is an honor to receive this accolade from this groundbreaking organization, the RGISC. After I taught a signature course on climate change at TAMIU, Tricia Cortez, the executive director, asked me to teach an education workshop on climate change to the Laredo Climate Cohort. I continued to help and participate with the Laredo Climate Cohort even after the workshop. The Cohort was comprised of a group of 21 college-age students that convened over the summer with RGISC. It builds advocacy for climate change issues through skills-building exercises like art-making, film, public speaking, and writing.”

- Dr. Puneet Gill, TAMIU College of Education associate professor
