After a lovely half-term break, we welcomed Year 1 back this week with lots of fun and new learning. This week the children have learnt all about what God looks like in different religions, started a new topic in Maths and have been reading a new story in English.
This week in Maths, some of the children have been learning about how to add 2 parts together to make 1 whole. We looked at what it means to be a part and how we can add both parts together to make our whole number by using cubes, counters and even trying to work it out without help!
Some of us have been working with ten frames as well as practising writing numbers!
In RE, we have learnt about how God has so many different representations depending on which religion you’re looking at! On Monday we learnt all about how Muslims celebrate Allah (God) with 99 special names that represent Allah. We also found out about how important Islamic art is, as it is used to symbolise the nature of Allah. The children enjoyed looking at some real life Islamic art before having a go at creating their own. They turned out beautiful!
In English, some of the children have been reading a book called Lost and Found, where they have had a go at outlining the beginning, middle and end of the story. As the book has no speech inside, we have thought about how the characters were feeling in the story and what they might have said to one another. We even created a list for all of the items the boy and penguin should pack for their trip to the South Pole!
We ended the week with a lovely music lesson using drum sticks and a PE lesson practising our throwing and catching skills!
