Hendricksen Photography Portfolio of Colton Hendricksen

Hi! My name is Colton Hendricksen and I have a passion in sports, photography, and 3d design.

Photography became apart of my life after I decided to try it out as a class in high school. It has become a passion for me enough to beg my parents to take me to an airshow, just to take pictures.

I also enjoy tampering and experimenting with computers, but sports such as track, hockey, and cross country I have loved all my life.

My Photography Work

Choice Photos
Military Security

This image was taken at the Wings Over Colorado airshow that had a selection of old ww2 aircraft to a new F35 Lightning. I managed to get myself into a VIP area that had me right where the F18 and F35 where. A military personnel was walking around the ramp and I managed to snap a few images of him. My camera was zoomed in to make him feel far away, and I waited for him to lift his feet up.

Preparation for Flight

About two hours into the airshow, the F18s started to get prepared for their show off. It was amazing as we were directly in front of them. This was when they brought the pilots out. I did not do anything special with this composition, but zoomed in and made sure to get everyone focused into the photo.

Afterburner

At the very end of the show I was in a tight situation. The F35 had started its show, but my parents wanted to leave before the rush. I managed to shoot this image on one of my last chances. I had a long zoom lens on and was almost zoomed in all the way. My composition made the F35 very grand.

The Morning Shine

The day prior to this photo I admired the snow that dropped and the golden hour that laid upon my house. The next day when I got the change, I grabbed my camera and my lovely dog and went to shoot a shot of the sunrise. I got a great glare with my dog in the picture. To take the photo I was kneeling and was zoomed out all the way.

Keeping Track

This image was taken during an assignment, but I did not need it for the assignment. I have ways enjoyed my watch and wear it everywhere. I was on my knees for this image and had it on a black table with a black background to focus the image. I waited till the 30 second mark struck and snapped the photo, producing this.

Calming Sights

This has to be one of my best photos yet. This was taken before on of my hockey games at one of the most beautiful places in Colorado. To take this I had to be on the other side of the tracks and road. I got low to make the image look grand and got lucky to capture the particles in the background of the photo.

Detail Landscape Photos
The Small Things

I was surprised to get an image of this bee as I thought it was a dead one, but I was wrong! I was on my back and twisted to the side taking photos of many bugs in this position. I managed to take a phot of this one using the long lens and got it perfectly focused on this bee.

Pink Beauty

I was very surprised to find this beautiful pink flower in the forest. I got over top of it and took a shot going trait down. This produced a lovely view of all the colors of the flower. My intent was to make this flower the primary subject.

Toy Photos
Medieval Times

This was a photo I was very surprised with the outcome. This photo took me tilting my camera and making a small gap for only a little bit of light to come though. In Lightroom I lowered the exposure and got this image.

Airport Museum Photos
Aim-9 Sidewinder

This aim-9 Sidewinder is a missile I really enjoy talking about. I found one on one of the F15s at the Pueblo Air Museum. My whole intent was to make the missile pop out and show all of its shape. My composition was low to make it look grand.

Shadows
Orange Feathers

Math class is where I get a majority of all my good photos, and this happened to be one of them. I have a little tag on my backpack that I obsess over and decided to take some more photos of it. I put the bag with the tag facing towards the sun and got a photo of the tag's shadow int he back. I had my camera on the same level of the tag.

Macro Mode Photos
Bass Clef

I have always been interested in music. During this time we were taking the photos for this assignment, I decided to head over to the music room to primarily play piano, but also take photos.. I found this sheet music and wanted it to be like all those news articles. I went in from the side and got close up to the sheet with a 0.5x lens and managed to get this image.

Monochrome Photos
Mathematic Perspective

Recently before this assignment, we had to do perspective photos. I thought it would be cool to do a perspective photo for this assignment of my algebra class. My whole intent was to make it feel like the viewer is the one doing the math themselves. My composition was me holding the camera around my head level to make the perspective similar to what it looks like to me.

Outdoor Portraits
After School Relaxation

This photo was for a fun assignment with a group of our choice. I choose to go with my close friends and all acted like dorks to get good poses. This is a photo of my friend Mylee. My whole goal for this photo was to get a playful, but relaxed scene. I managed to get a golden scene that made her pop. My composition for this photo was me standing to the side and overtop of her.

Grand Landscape Photos
Golden Railroad

This photo is one of my most well thought out photos that I tried my best on. My whole goal was to get a golden style image with an immersive background. In this photo I was on my stomach with the camera close to the rails trying to get an elevated but low perspective.

This year has been a great year that has taught me many things about the different aspects of photography.

The assignments bored me, but I still completed all of them, and in the end they have helped me have a better look into photos.

One of my favorite assignments this year has to be when we did Macro Mode. I love close up pictures with high detail and it allows me to do so much with composition.

With all my experiance I feel like I can go on to produce better photos than before and continue thriving on them.

I have gained the knowledge and insight into the process of taking the photo, editing, and sharing it. This will serve me well in the future.
