- AFTERCARE CLOSES at 5pm WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, Feb. 15 and 16. - In anticipation of parade-related traffic congestion in the area, aftercare will end at 5pm on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Happy Parading!
- There is no school from Feb. 17 - 24. Happy Mardi Gras!
- 3rd Quarter exams will be held March 3 - 8.
- The 3rd quarter ends on March 9.
- Students are dismissed at noon on March 9 due to a professional development meeting for teachers.
- There is no school for students on March 10. It is a Records Day.

5/6th grade basketball team are the NOAL Championship
On Monday, Jan. 30, our 5th / 6th girls basketball team took home the New Orleans Athletic League championship! We defeated John Curtis with a score of 26 to 22. Congratulations to our 5/6 girls basketball team! GO LIONS!
5/ 6th Boys soccer team
Congratulations to our 5/ 6 Boys Soccer team. They were the runner-up in the New Orleans Athletic League's 5/6 boys division. GO LIONS!
7th grade (rising 8th grade) parent meeting
This week, our high school admin team held an informational meeting for current 7th grade parents/guardians whose children will be rising 8th graders in the 2023-2024 school year. The High School counselors and administrators presented an overview of the high school program, the scheduling process and the opportunities along with the implications of taking high school Carnegie unit classes as 8th graders. The meeting was recorded for any parents/ guardians that were unable to attend.
The students will also have an informational meeting with the high school administrators on Feb. 10.
spirit days celebrating black history month
- On Wednesdays during the month of February, students are encouraged to wear shirts or other gear celebrating Black history. This could mean wearing a T-shirt representing an important African American figure in history or wearing a shirt celebrating Black History Month.
- On Mondays during the month of February, we will celebrate HBCUs. HBCUs are Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Show your pride in HBCUs by wearing HBCU T-shirts or other gear on Mondays!
- Students also could dress in the colors black, red, or yellow on Mondays and Wednesdays to celebrate Black History Month.
our MS & HS Singers will be featured with LPO
Our middle and high school singers will be the featured choir in the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra's "The Music of John Williams" Concert later this month! We'll be performing 3 pieces during the 2nd half of the program: "Dry Your Tears, Afrika" from Amistad, "Hymn to the Fallen" from Saving Private Ryan, and "Duel of the Fates" from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

6th grade visit with Violin of Hope
Members of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra visited our campus this week for a special performance, called Violins of Hope, for our 6th grade students. Violins of Hope, a project of concerts and educational programming, aims to teach audiences about the Holocaust through music and culture using a private collection of violins, violas, and cellos rescued from the Holocaust and lovingly restored by father-son team and renowned violin makers Amnon and Avshi Weinstein.
5th grade had guest speakers from LIGO
On Thursday, the 5th-grade students in Ms. Svoboda's science class had a special activity with guest speakers from LIGO. LIGO stands for Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory and it is located in Livingston, LA. There are 3 of these sites in the world with gravitational wave detectors. We were very excited to have the LIGO education department work with our fifth-grade students. The students were able to ask questions about black holes. This will be a unique opportunity for them to interact with scientists in the field and learn about their journey.
LMEA District Honor Choir
Congratulations to the Willow School singers who participated in the LMEA District Honor Choir. They performed a concert on Saturday evening at Divine Mercy Church in Kenner. They were led by conductors Ken Berg from the Birmingham Boys Choir and Terry Walker from Long Beach High School in Mississippi.

no place for hate student committee
On Thursday, our No Place for Hate Student Committee met to discuss our Black History Month celebrations. They identified historical figures for our school to highlight during Black History Month. We sincerely appreciate all of our No Place for Hate Student Committee's help throughout the school year.

The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC)’s Student Writing Contest is currently open and accepting submissions through March 3, 2023. For this year’s contest, which is open to all students in grades 6 – 12 and which comes with cash prizes for the top middle and high school entries, students are to respond to a prompt with their thoughts on the current state of rights and civil liberties in the United States. The prompt is a quote from Sylvanie Williams, an African American educator, activist, and leader, who compared the plight of African American women to flowers mistreated and trampled underfoot and whose work will be featured in THNOC’s upcoming special exhibit on the fight for women’s suffrage in Louisiana opening this Spring.
K-12 students, parents and teachers are invited to participate in STEM Fest on the Saints practice field. The hands-on educational event will feature live performances, interactive demonstrations in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and Saints & Pelicans activities! The $15 admission ticket gets you a ticket to the STEM Fest and a Pelicans game. The price will increase after Feb. 17 and space is limited.
