WOW of the Week! 5th September 2022 We're back! from outer space

We're back! I hope you've all had a great break, seeing loads of interesting things and getting inspired for the new year. WOW has returned with its range of interesting things I've seen over the past week. A wide range of ideas this week, from Live Performance to Illustration. I have started with a general theme of discovery, curiosity and new challenges, which seemed like the obvious place to start, I hope you enjoy the mix of things. Good luck this year, if you can be organised and enthusiastic you can expect the highest grades at the end. Do yourself proud!

As always, if you would like to contribute to the blog, I'd really appreciate it, email me your links/ images and reasons why we should explore the ideas, much like I do.

Planet eSTREAM: Oceans Apart: Art and the Pacific with James Fox

In this series, Dr James Fox explores the incredible stories from the Polynesian world. Each episode explores the history and colonisation of a set of islands, from Australia and New Zealand to Tahiti.

The series shows how the people explored vast oceans and lands, looking for islands, risking lives to discover new homes, their culture lives on today, much effected by western interference. What could it have been, without that?

From the artwork created by the people both now and in the past and the work that was inspired by visiting westerners. Of course issues, with slavery and persecution are explored as there civilisations were destroyed by western oppression. What do you think? How have you been inspired by this work?

TV: RED ROSE

A drama set in Bolton about the perils of social media and shadowy figures who reek havoc on a group of friends, who have just left high school. What is Red Rose? You'll have to watch.

Some great visuals and a depictation of life in Bolton. It could inspire your own project

A fun watch with some good acting.

MUSIC: PRIMAVERA

Primavera is the Spanish Glastonbury, with great headliners and exciting staging. (There are international versions too, so this page should have loads of great stuff throughout the year.) Below is a link to their YouTube Channel that has loads of different performances and videos from current and upcoming live acts. worth a subscribe.

I've selected the Dry Cleaning set, as I really like them, they are one of the fun new bands who broke out last year.

ILLUSTRATION AND GRAPHICS: OWEN DAVEY

Owen Davey is a Graphic designer who has made a series of interesting books about different animals. In the spirit of being Curious, I have selected his book Curious about Crocodiles. each page is filled with interesting info and ideas are explained in clear but creative ways. Well worth a look at his other titles too.

Artic Monkeys have a new single out too. It's really good. Very Scott Walker in style.
