Sipping on Summer

It is so important to stay hydrated, especially during the summertime. If you're looking for creative and colorful drinks without the alcohol, we've got you covered! If you're not yet 21 or you just prefer non-alcoholic beverages, here are some mocktails and summer drinks that are refreshingly delicious. We've also added a bonus mocktail perfect for summer! Homemade Strawberry Acai Refresher

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups fresh strawberries (sliced)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup white grape juice
  • Ice

Tools:

  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon
  • Pitcher
  • Saucepan
  • Tablespoon

Directions:

  1. Stir strawberries, sugar, 2 cups of water, and acai powder in sauce pan (boil over medium high heat)
  2. Lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes
  3. Pour strawberry syrup through strainer, use back of spoon to push on fruit to get all juice (flavor)
  4. Set syrup aside to cool
  5. Pour strawberry syrup in large pitcher, add 2 cups water and grape juice
  6. Pour over ice

Extras:

  • Need it quicker? Make your strawberry syrup in advance, freeze in the ice cube tray, and pop cubes into a glass of water!

Recipe for Homemade Strawberry Acai Refresher

Strawberry Blueberry Banana Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups plain or vanilla Greek yogurt (sweeter)
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup diced strawberries (about 8 berries)
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Tools:

  • Measuring cup
  • Teaspoon
  • Blender

Directions:

  1. Put all ingredients into blender, puree until smooth
  2. Pour into glasses

Recipe for Strawberry Blueberry Banana Smoothie

Blue Mocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup blue curacao syrup
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 cups lemon lime seltzer
  • 2 lemon slices (for garnish)
  • 2 orange slices (for garnish)

Directions:

  1. Fill glasses with ice
  2. Pour 1/4 cup of the blue curacao syrup into each glass
  3. Add the lemon juice and orange juice to each glass
  4. Top each mocktail with the seltzer and use a cocktail stirrer to give each glass a quick stir
  5. Garnish each glass with a lemon slice and an orange slice and enjoy

Tips and Tricks:

  • Add a tablespoon of lime juice for even more citrus flavor
  • Use sprite in place of lemon lime seltzer

Recipe for Blue Mocktail

Virgin Pina Colada

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups pineapple juice
  • ¾ cup cream of coconut
  • 4 cups ice
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pineapple wedges and maraschino cherries as garnishes

Directions:

  1. Add the pineapple juice, cream of coconut, ice and vanilla extract to a blender.
  2. Puree until very smooth.
  3. Pour into four glasses and garnish with a cherry and pineapple slice.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Add the juice from one lime to add a whole new zing to the drink
  • Freeze some pineapple slices and use them in place of ice cubes for a thicker, intense pineapple flavor.

Recipe for Virgin Pina Colada

Raspberry Virgin Mojito

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup fresh packed mint leaves1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup fresh raspberries
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • ½ cup lime juice
  • 24 ounces seltzer
  • Ice
  • Fresh mint for garnish

Directions:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the ½ cup mint leaves, 1 cup white sugar and water. Bring the mix to a boil over medium heat. Stir to dissolve the sugar and boil for 5 minutes.
  2. Remove the pan from the stove then strain, removing the mint from the syrup. Be sure to press the mint leaves into the strainer to help release some of their juices. Discard the mint.
  3. In a small bowl, mash the raspberries with the brown sugar then divide the raspberry mash between 4 glasses.
  4. Add 2 tablespoons of the mint syrup to each glass.
  5. Add 2 tablespoons of lime juice to each glass.
  6. Fill each glass with ice and then top with the seltzer. Stir briefly and then garnish each glass with a mint leaf.

Tips and Tricks:

  • You can make the mint syrup in advance and store it in the fridge. It will keep for about a month.
  • If you can’t find fresh raspberries, frozen, thawed berries will work, too.

Recipe for Raspberry Virgin Mojito Mocktail

Bonus: Summer Sunrise Mocktail

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 Tablespoons grenadine
  • Orange slice
  • Ice

Directions:

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice.
  2. Pour the orange juice into the glass.
  3. Top with the grenadine.
  4. Garnish with an orange slice and enjoy.

Tips and Tricks:

  • Puree some fresh strawberries to use in place of grenadine.
  • Use fresh pomegranate juice in place of the grenadine and garnish with some fresh pomegranate seeds.
