Headteacher's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a long term since September, but another successful one in terms of progress made by our children and young people and our overall school development. Thank you for the support you have given the School, your preparation of our children for school each day and your regular well wishes, that we have received throughout the year; it has been really appreciated. I know we will all now welcome the Christmas break, the opportunity to recharge and spend time with our families and loved ones, before we go again for the start of the spring term, which begins on Tuesday January 3rd at 9.00am.

The School has celebrated the last week of term well, preparing for the birth of Christ and sharing with all the true meaning of Christmas. The children have really enjoyed the Advent preparation we have undertook this year and have all been full participants in our liturgical services.

We have had class Christmas trips on Monday, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Our Christmas Masses and Christmas dinner were again memorable events that staff and pupils engaged with superbly. It was also great to see pupils enjoying their social time in their class parties at the end of the week.

You should have received your child’s school report earlier this week; should you have any concerns please do raise these with the class team early in the new year. We are already planning our parents’ evening for later in the spring term.

Many congratulations to those pupils awarded the ‘Pupil of the Term’ for their Class teams; a fantastic achievement recognising the contributions made by our pupils in school each day.

Let nothing disturb you,

nothing frighten you,

all things are passing,

God is unchanging.

Patience gains all;

nothing is lacking to those who have God:

God alone is sufficient.

Class 13 & Post 16

Class 13 and their fellow Post 16 students visited a beautiful, wintery Dunham Massey for their Christmas trip out. They also worked up a big appetite for their Christmas meal at Bramley Farm.

Class 12

Class 12 congratulated Amy on her 17th birthday. We had a great Christmas trip to Dunham Massey, then went for a carvery at Bramley Farm. We all enjoyed our meal. We wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a prosperous 2023.

Class 10

Class 10 had a lovely time at McDonalds in Manchester before showing off their golfing skills at Tree Tops Golf in the Printworks.

CLASS 9

This week class 9 enjoyed their Christmas trip to Manchester, where they participated in the roman treasure hunt in Castlefield and enjoyed some time together eating some lovely food at Taco Bell. Merry Christmas from Class 9.

Class 8

Class 8 have enjoyed doing lots of Christmas activities this week.

Class 7

Class 7 have had a great week. They enjoyed their end of year trip to Manchester and ate unlimited pizza! We went to Cornerstone and gave some handmade hampers and gifts that Class 7 and SJV staff donated. Hopefully, this will make some others have a great Christmas this year. We also went on our last farm trip of the year; Farmer Dot took us sledging down the hills and they made snowmen. We also enjoyed a lovely Christmas dinner with the rest of KS3 this week. Merry Christmas from Class 7!

Class 6

Class 6 carried out some litter picking at Longford Park on Tuesday during Independence and Enrichment. We managed to fill up two bin bags.

Class 1

Class 1 have had a festive filled week, enjoying their party and doing lots of painting! With such a busy week it was nice to lie under the stars in science.

Last week the SJV choir visited the Limelight Centre in Old Trafford; the children performed a mix of contemporary and traditional carols. The day provided a great Christmas spirit for the residents of the Limelight Centre; children had a chance to sit and chat with residents and also shared mince pies and were all gifted a selection box from the residents. How kind!

We hope to return again to the Limelight Centre in 2023 at Easter and armistice day and form a strong bond between the school and the centre. Mr Wood and Mrs Rouse would like to thank all the children for all their hard work over the last few weeks and preparing to make the day an incredibly special day for us all.

We would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.

Our Catholic School

What an amazing final week tonight at SJV! It seems such a short time since it was half term, then the month of the Holy Soul and the Advent. Now it’s time to relax and prepare for Christmas.

We still need to remember though we are in Advent – a time of preparation for the coming of Jesus Christ; remembering daily worship and to reflect on the importance of waiting and preparing for Jesus. Within SJV this week we are reflecting on God’s message from Pope Francis ‘The Lord is coming. May we await him with open hearts!’ The third Advent theme is ‘Joy’. Joy is infectious; be full of joy and others will follow! SJV has been full of Joy this week and it’s been lovely to see.

Within our Catholic school we all got together as a staff on Monday at our Chair of Governors' Father Byrne’s house. It was lovely to spend some time together, relaxing and being able to reflect on our first term.

The chaplaincy team helped prepare two Christmas Masses – one for key stage 3 the other for key stage 4/5 and it was lovely to be back in the chapel worshipping together. Mr Moloney gave out his rewards to the students to recognise those who have gone above and beyond. Then after the service we had a lovely Christmas meal together in our Key Stage prepared by our hard-working kitchen team, it was delicious.

With RE this we have been focussing on the Nativity story and the real meaning of Christmas. We have looked at what we should be grateful for and what gives us hope for the future.

I wish you all a very happy Christmas and to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas with Jesus’ love and time with our families.
