A Knightly Newsletter December 2022

Principal's Message

December didn’t have many school days, but we fit a lot of fun in a short period of time. We had many wonderful performances by our Knights to enjoy. There were evening band and orchestra concerts, as well as choir performances and even caroling throughout the school! We also got to enjoy Winter Music Assemblies where so many talented Knights entertained us. Lastly, we held the first-ever Mesa Academy Robotics tournament where our many teams were able to show off their skills.- Ms. Wilfert

Our MAAS Website has a new look. Make sure you check it out!

Close-Up

Our 8th Grade Close-up trip is still a ways away BUT remember, all FINAL PAYMENTS are due January 27th. Reminder: Anyone who wants to participate in this trip must review the behavior and academic expectations for the trip. The 1st-grade checks will be early in the 3rd quarter. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Brown at: rtbrown@mpsaz.org.

UKnighters

We had a blast at our last Fall Semester UKnighters meeting. Our buddies shared treats, gifts, and lots of laughs. Together, UKnighters built Human Christmas Trees and talked about some of the fun traditions they share with their families.
Our 4th and 5th graders enjoyed some hot cocoa and Mexican pan dulce on the last few days of the Fall Semester. They had the opportunity to learn about the different types of sweet bread and the difference between Mexican hot chocolate and hot cocoa. They also made luminaries to take home and decorate their homes for the holidays. Thank you to all of the parents for their time and donations. A BIG thank you to Mrs. Poole, Mr. Egan, Mr. Frank, and Mr. Austin for their help.

Our MAAS Knights in Action this Fall Semester!

Here are just a few of the fun activities our knights participated in this semester! Make sure to ask them about each one.

Holiday Performance

On December 15, the Mesa Academy Advanced Band, Advanced Orchestra, and Intermediate Orchestra performed in chamber groups for the school. The music arrangement students made the arrangements for the band students to perform. At the end of the show, 120 Mesa Academy Students combined to perform Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer, combining the band, orchestra, and the MAAS 4th and 5th-grade choirs! It was a great way to kick off the Holiday season and end a great Fall Semester.

NAL

Our NAL Season is here! We hope you will be able to support our Knights as they once again dominate NAL Games. Stay tuned for more updates. Go, KNIGHTS!!

Robotics

Saturday, December 17th, was a busy morning at MAAS, with lots of students, parents, and community members... and ROBOTS!!! This was the first robotics tournament hosted by MAAS. Mr. Pond and his team did a great job making everyone feel welcome. The tournament ran smoothly and fun was had by all that attended. We had teams join from outside of MPS, The Roarbots are a team from Scottsdale that came all the way here and did a great job. Congratulations to all of the Knights who competed in the regional-level robotics tournament held on December 17th at the Academy!

Academy teams advancing to State on January 14 are the Knight-N-Galz (Brooklyn D, Valette L, Lindsay J, Vanessa R, Maisie O) and Each Sold Separately (Marcus R, Asher N, Natale C, JJ R, Justin M).
