Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I do hope you and your families are keeping well?
The school weeks are flying by with only 3 more, very busy weeks left in school. Our children have been told today about their new classes for September, to help them prepare for change. We are confident they will embrace the opportunities that will be presented to them as they move through year groups at SJV. If you have any concerns or worries please do let us know.
Can I remind you again please of the School Summer Fair, which takes place tomorrow July 1st from 1pm to 3pm. It would be lovely to see you in attendance with your families and supporting the School at this event. Thank you to all parents and carers who have already supported us with providing donations for the stalls.
Today we have had our leavers’ service and celebration for the pupils who officially leave SJV. It was a sad occasion in some ways, but certainly a celebration of the pupils’ many achievements and successes of their time with us at SJV. So many of our children really leave a legacy at School. We will remember them, as we wish them the very best on their next stage of life’s journey.
We have also this week welcomed into School the parents and carers of pupils who will join SJV in September 2023. The new children have certainly enjoyed their initial experiences at SJV and our new families certainly seem happy with the school choice they have made for their child. We look forward to them joining the SJV School community and wish them well for their time with us.
The collation of our annual reports is going well and we are undertaking our quality assurance process now. We are planning to send the pupils report home to you week beginning 10th July.
It is a busy time for us all in school and we appreciate, as always, the cooperative and mature approaches displayed by our pupils and the continued support of their parents and carers.
There are now only 3 weeks left, before we break for the summer holidays, (Friday 21st July at 1.30pm; transport teams have been informed) and we are busy preparing for the end of the academic year and the start of the new one, which will begin on Tuesday 5th September at 9.00am for our pupils.
I hope you have an enjoyable weekend with your families. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow at the Summer Fair.
Best wishes,
Mr A Moloney, Headteacher
.

SJV Class News
Class 3
This week the class 3 boys have been to the Science and Industry Museum and learned about the first electronic stored-programme computer, built by the University of Manchester! As well as this, they enjoyed the interactive science activities and games that the museum had to offer. Those that weren't off-site with enrichment trips learned about the history of the Cold War with Mrs Murphy.
Class 4
This week Class 4 have been watching our caterpillars grow and then create their chrysalis. We must be very careful with them now that they're in their delicate chrysalises. Next week we might have butterflies!
At the farm this week, we helped to cut down willow branches, and then we fed them to the goats. The children worked very hard!
Class 9
Class 9 have shown enthusiasm this week learning about the escalation of the Vietnam War. As a class they rewound back in time and had a real-life congress meeting for and against War in Vietnam. Dylan created his own power point about what he had learnt over the half term. Well done class 9!
Class 11
On Tuesday 20th June, Class 11 went to Tanzaro Creative (Photography Studio) for a work experience visit. The students learnt about lighting and were allowed to use the DSLR camera's and set up their own photoshoots. This was a very positive learning experience for all. Feedback from Class 11 is that they had a great day at the studio and would love too go back next year.
Class 12
It was Blythe and Demarjio's last day at 'The Bread and Butter Thing'. What a wonderful time we had. I think since we have been going this year, we have packed approximately 3040 bags of food to help others. This includes unloading the van and setting up. What an amazing example of community work.
Our Catholic School
"Let us learn to face moments of difficulty with courage, certain that Jesus never fails to give us his support.”
It’s the end of an era this week for SJV and every year it doesn’t get any easier; as some of our year 11’s and post 16’s leave our school community. It’s a bitter sweet moment for us, it's wonderful to see them ready to leave and start a new chapter of their lives; we will miss them. It was lovely to celebrate with parents, carers and friends at the end of our school week; the Leaving Service with Father Nick, and the celebration afterwards with Miss Nesbitt, was a lovely way to end our time together at SJV.
The Gospel focus for this week in SJV reminds us to be brave! God has provided us all with opportunities to be courageous in our actions. ‘Let us learn to face moments of difficulty with courage, certain that Jesus never fails to give us his support.’ Be brave this week!
Within our Catholic school, Mrs. Jordan’s Class 1 had an in-house retreat with Father Nick. They looked at friendship and new beginnings. The Chaplaincy team, after having helped with the Leavers Service, have now turned their attention to the end of year Mass. There’s likely to be dancing and drumming, you never know! 😊
It’s our Summer Fair on Saturday! Join us to celebrate another end of an era. We start the process of the new build soon, it would be lovely to see our friends, families and carers at the Fair.
Within RE this week we continue to look at world wide religions with students investigating different items and religious artefacts. Then they conducted research based on their own questions. The students learnt so much from the independent learning and enquiry approach, it helps to develop their curiosity, confidence and of course, their communication skills.
