From Head to Toe

The children began their learning about body parts with a familiar song of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. This activity helped them recall the names of common body parts while moving and singing along. After the song, we looked at even more body parts and the children did a fantastic job labelling their diagrams. They enjoyed matching body part names to the correct places and discussing the important roles these parts play in everyday life.

During our PSHE lessons the children also explored the concept of personal boundaries and the idea that everyone has a special, invisible space around them called a body boundary. In small groups, they discussed different close contact scenarios, such as hugging a friend, holding hands, having their hair brushed or visiting a doctor. They shared how these situations might make them feel and recognised that everyone’s feelings about personal space can be different.

We finished the week by focusing on road safety. The children began discussing how they travel to school each day and shared the different ways they stay safe on their journeys. During our group discussions, they talked about wearing seatbelts, using crossings, and holding an adults hand when near a road. We explored the Stop, Look, Listen, Think rule of crossing the road safely, ensuring the children understood the importance of being aware of their surroundings before stepping onto the road. The children created brilliant posters with key road safety messages, encouraging others to be careful and responsible near roads.
