analyzing energy to save you money
In 2018, Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC) identified the need to create an Energy Analyst position. As with most positions at CGEMC, our Energy Analyst wears many hats, but the role we are most proud of is looking out for your best interest by avoiding unnecessary energy consumption and, ultimately, a surprise on your bill.
Metering technology allows us to analyze data like never before. As a result, our Energy Analyst can identify spikes or drops in use that could help diagnose larger issues. Typically, this entails picking up the phone and informing you, our member, that something is unusual.
Fluctuations in temperature and varying use habits make it impossible to identify every “out of the ordinary” situation. However, alerting members to abnormal use is often enough information to recall what might have changed in their homes.
Two-thirds of all issues we identify are related to heating and cooling systems. These range from improperly wired thermostats to torn ductwork. Burst water pipes are another problem commonly identified by CGEMC’s Energy Analyst.
Over the five years of having an Energy Analyst on staff, CGEMC has helped members save by reaching out when something seems abnormal. Make sure to keep CGEMC updated with your best contact information should the need arise.
Our website and mobile app offer self-guided information that will help you identify your energy consumption. Visit www.cgemc.com/together-we-save for more details.

Central Georgia EMC recently supported the mini-engineers at Unity Grove Elementary School with their Ultimate Egg Drop project. Kindergarten students were tasked with building an egg container that would keep a raw egg safe when dropped from 20 feet in the air. Many eggs stayed intact, and all had a fun time.

energy tip
The location of your thermostat can impact your HVAC system’s ability to maintain an ideal indoor temperature. For maximum accuracy, thermostats should be placed in the center of the home, away from air vents, plumbing pipes, and exterior doors.
Avoid placing items like lamps and televisions near your thermostat, which can cause the HVAC to run longer than necessary. Avoid installing thermostats in rooms that feel warmer or colder than the rest of the home. Do not place furniture in front of the thermostat, which can block airflow and result in inaccurate readings.
Our Fuel Georgia team would love to welcome you to the neighborhood! Give us a call at 678-774-6010 or visit us at www.fuelgeorgia.com.
