Overview
This portion of the DGI Kick-off event is designed to further familiarize you with Adobe CC Express by having you not only think critically and creatively about digital making practices, but to start to identify your relation to digital literacy and its possibilities within your own pedagogy. To this end, we aim to guide you through the creation of a web page by using Adobe CC Express and the following steps/prompts below.
Step 1 | A Starting Point
For the first step, create a new Adobe CC Express Web page:
- Go to express.adobe.com
- Sign-in using your "username@iu.edu" login (if not already signed in)
- Click the "+" button (green arrow) and then select "Web page" (blue arrow) in submenu
Then add title, subtitle, and opening image:
- Once the new Web page project launches, click "Add a title" (green arrow) and add a title: e.g., "DGI, Adobe CC Express, and Me"
- Click "Add a subtitle" (blue arrow) and add your name.
- Click Photo icon (purple arrow) and add a photo.
Step 2 | Techno-comfort
Add a heading and content:
- Click the plus button (green arrow), select Text (blue arrow), select "H2" for heading selection (purple arrow) and type in section heading: "A Comfort Statement."
- Click the plus button again, select Text, and type our your response to following prompt: In a sentence or two, identify and explain how comfortable you are with technology.
Bonus Points for creative response: e.g., "I'm about as comfortable with technology as learning to ride a unicycle: I mean, I know how to ride a bicycle so how hard can one less wheel be?"
Step 3 | Introduce yourself
Add header (H2): e.g., "Imaging Me"
Using Adobe Stock, search for and insert a photo that describes you as a person, educator, or digital enthusiast. Also add a brief descriptive (i.e., textual) introduction.
- Click the "+" button (green arrow), select the Photo icon (blue arrow), and select "Adobe Stock" (purple arrow).
- Search for images in Adobe Stock using "key word" search
* Adobe Stock & Licensing
If you select an image from Adobe Stock that has not yet been licensed, it will appear on your Web page with the Adobe Stock watermark (green arrow). To license this image, just click on the little "i" icon (blue arrow), which will launch the information window for the image. In that new window, click license (purple arrow), which launches the licensing window. Click "Take me to Adobe Stock" (yellow arrow) to sign-in and license the image at stock.adobe.com.
Step 4 | What is Digital Literacy? What does it look like in your discipline?
Add section header (H2): e.g., "Thinking Digital Literacy"
Add your Think-Pair-Make-Share (TPMS) image from earlier. Provide a brief explanation / image rationale (if necessary):
- Click the "+" button (green arrow), select the Photo icon (blue arrow), and click "Upload photo" button (purple arrow).
- Locate your TPMS image and upload to project.
Step 5 | Pedagogy & Adobe CC Express
Add section header (H2): e.g., "Pedagogical Possibilities"
Add text (or images or links) that responds to the following prompt: Generate a list of different ways you might use this suite of tools in your course (e.g., in-class activities, student work, etc.).
Step 6 | Commitments
Add section header (H2): e.g., "Grounded Beginnings"
Add text (or images or links) that responds to the following prompt: Identify and describe an existing assignment from your course that you might want to remake/remediate through Adobe CC Express
