Welcome to our Spring Term Newsletter showcasing many of the enriching experiences and wonderful achievements of our students.
Thank you to our Creative Media Department for producing this and to all our staff who provide a wealth of opportunities both within and beyond the classroom.
We are incredibly proud of our students’ talent, creativity, individual flair and commitment to learning.

Visual Arts - New Media Studio
As the demand for new technology and new media increases we have been fortunate in securing funding to develop a new Media Studio in the Visual Arts Faculty.
T101 has now been divided into two new rooms one which houses new computers fully equipped to run all of the Adobe CC software we use such as Lightroom, Photoshop and Prem Pro. The other space has become a Film and Photography studio with a retractable backdrop, ceiling lighting rig, film cameras and even a control room for mixing and cutting film recording together.
The new facility will serve a number of purposes such as aiding and supporting BTEC Media students, GCSE and A Level Photography students, helping staff to create resources for lessons, CPD training, promotional videos for the school and in the near future a new school news programme for all students and staff to share the amazing work that takes place on a daily basis at LPGS!!
We would like to say a special thank you to all those involved in this project and especially the school governors for supporting us and seeing the vision through to the end!!
Music News
Wow, what a busy term this one always is! Year 11 and 13 have been working really hard on their final recitals and compositions as their deadline is looming. But on top of that, we have also had a record-breaking number of events that LPGS students have performed in.
First we had the Platform Concert which is a small, intimate, open mic night where students perform whatever they want to. A huge range of musical styles were included as well as some students who have never performed at Langley before.
Next was the first of two Saturday Addams Family rehearsals which saw exciting progress being made on the first Act of the show. As we don’t receive the sheet music for the band until after Easter, the rehearsal tracks that are provided did the trick. The main characters and chorus are doing brilliantly, its definitely going to be one not to miss!
On Tuesday 7th March and Wednesday 8th March, our GCSE and A level exam groups performed their final recitals in the Main Hall. It takes huge commitment and dedication to become a confident, accurate performer and our students certainly proved they were up for the challenge. They should be really proud of what they have achieved and some also had the opportunity to share their achievements at our Spring Cabaret Concert on Wednesday 29th March.
In the same week as the recitals, Year 11 got the chance to professionally record their own compositions in our very own industry standard recording studio. They either played their own or had a pro-player perform their piece whilst they were in the control room helping Mr Sizer produce the session. It really is a magical moment hearing your own piece played in ‘real life’ for the first time and the opportunity also allowed the students to develop their music technology skills as an extra bonus.
The following week on Tuesday 14th March, we had the privilege of taking our String Quintet to the Fairfield Halls to perform as part of the BYMT Bromley Schools Prom. Miss Parry kindly drove us on the minibus to the venue in the afternoon as we weren’t too keen taking a double bass and cello on the bus! The group did their sound check like professionals and then even practised in the green room using chairs as music stands whilst they passed the time before the evening concert! They performed to a packed auditorium and blew everyone away with their rendition of Beethoven’s String Quartet No.1 in F, Op.18, mvt. I and ‘Eleanor Rigby’. We received a beautiful message from one of the primary schools there saying that our students inspired theirs and they can’t wait to start learning an instrument. Well done to Annabel L-W, Izzy T, Isabel B, Bethany L and Lucy B who really did us proud.
This brings us to our Spring Festival which started on Tuesday 22nd March and starts with two appearances of our joint LPGS & LPSB Orchestra known as the Langley Philharmonic Orchestra in the Langley Concert Hall, under the baton of our very own Mr Sizer. The group form in October each year and have just a few months to put together their programme which this year consisted of Berlioz’s ‘March to the Scaffold’, Farandolle and ‘The Magnificent Seven’. The group performed brilliantly and it is always so nice when schools get the chance to collaborate.
Further collaboration then took place this Wednesday evening at the Impact Trust Piano Evening. Eight students from Years 7-9 represented LPGS and played in a programme that included all Impact primary and secondary schools. It is always a lovely evening and gives pianists the chance to shine in public when so often they are solitary players.
To conclude our festival, on Monday we had our next Year 7 Instrument Scheme concert where students that have learnt to play the trombone, violin or keyboard this term with Mr Sizer show off the progress they have made to their parents. On Wednesday our Spring Cabaret Concert took place which is the LPO’s final appearance as well a celebration of our older students musical talents whilst the audience enjoyed nibbles and drinks at candle-lit tables.
Congratulations to all the students who have passed grade exams with flying colours this term, including:
Cara W – Grade 4 Flute with Merit
Zara T – Grade 4 Singing with Distinction

Drama Department News
This term has been busy for drama students and the department. Firstly, we have had visiting examiners from AQA returning after three years. Year 13 students performed monologues on Tuesday 14th March, with Year 11s then performing their two extracts from a published plays on Tuesday 21st. This is a stressful process, and all students rose brilliantly to the challenge. Lots of outstanding work was shown and we hope the examiners are as positive as we are about the quality of the work our students performed. Just the written exam to go for both cohorts now.
Year 12 students joined forces with Year 12s from LPBS and Ravens Wood School to participate in a three hour workshop with Kerry Frampton from Splendid Productions on 6th March. The purpose of the workshop was to kick start the devising process, and it was a really positive, buzzy afternoon, all the more so for the presence of drama students from other schools.
On Thursday 9th March, Year 12 and Year 13 drama students went to see Phaedra at the National Theatre. We all really loved the production which was exciting and inventive in so many ways. This was our third theatre trip with Year 12 and 13s this academic year, and will be the last one with our Year 13 students.
Finally, our Year 12 students have volunteered to support the Year 6s at Unicorn Primary School with their Year 6 production. I am sure this collaboration will benefit everyone involved.
School Production: The Addams Family Musical
Rehearsals are going really well for this year’s school production, The Addams Family. Performances are in July and tickets will be available from a month before the shows via TicketSource. We have an amazingly talented cast and can’t wait to share this enjoyable production with you.
Ski Trip
We are delighted to report that the recent school ski trip to Santa Caterina, Italy was a great success! From February 12th to February 18th, 53 students and 7 staff members travelled by coach to the stunning Italian Alps, where they enjoyed four hours of skiing each day in brilliant conditions.
Our group stayed at a beautiful family run and welcoming hotel in the heart of Santa Caterina, which provided the perfect base for our skiing adventures. Our students were treated to homemade Italian food every evening, enjoyed relaxing in the comfortable rooms and playing games in the communal areas.
Each day, our group set off early to take advantage of the excellent skiing conditions. Our experienced ski instructors provided tuition, ensuring that students of all abilities made progress and felt confident on the slopes. By day 3 all groups were skiing to the mountain lunch restaurant and enjoying a well-earned sunbathe and snow fight. The snow was perfect for skiing, and our students enjoyed exploring the many pistes and runs in the area, even some of the Black level runs!
In addition to skiing, our group also enjoyed a range of other activities during the trip. We took to the ice for some ice skating, which proved to be great fun for all involved, especially Miss Dixon and Mr Acomb’s photo shoot. Sledging was another highlight of the trip, with students racing down the snowy slopes on sledges and having an absolute blast. The drawings of horses in the quiz however, left a lot to be desired!
One evening, we enjoyed a delicious meal at a local Italian restaurant, where we indulged in some authentic pizza. The outing was a chance to get out into the town for the evening and our students had a great time chatting and enjoying each other's company over a delicious meal.
We were incredibly impressed with the behaviour and attitude of our students throughout the trip. They showed great respect for the local environment and culture, and were a credit to the school at all times. Their positive and enthusiastic approach to skiing and other activities was a pleasure to witness, and they made many lasting memories and friendships during the trip.
Overall, the trip to Santa Caterina was a wonderful experience for all involved. Our students had the opportunity to learn new skills, explore a beautiful part of Italy, and make lasting memories with their friends and classmates. We would like to thank our staff members who accompanied the group, Mr Acomb, Miss Bush, Miss Dixon, Mrs Cordingley, Mr Cardew, Miss Ralston-Ashford and Miss Spink, as well as the students themselves for their excellent behaviour and attitude throughout the trip. We hope that the students have returned home with a newfound passion for skiing and adventure, and we look forward to planning more exciting trips in the future.
VISUAL ARTS - UCA PARTNERSHIP
In the Visual Arts Faculty we have continued to build and develop our partnership with UCA (The University of Creative Arts) which offers our students unique opportunities in terms of understanding and experiencing further education in the Creative Arts.
This term we were fortunate enough to have a series of presentation led by key lecturers from course such as Fine Art - Textiles and Fashion - Design - Media - Photography and much more. The presentation were made via Teams in morning tutor periods.
Recordings from the session can be found on FIREFLY at:
LPGS WIN THE FULLY BOOKED QUIZ
Congratulations to our brilliant team who have just won Bromley Central Library’s Fully Booked Quiz. Our students faced seven rounds of challenging questions on all aspects of literature. Undaunted, they took an early lead, which they maintained against strong competition.
Well done: George C 7GA - Avy K 8LE - Evie K 8LE - Megan OA 8LF - Isabelle E 8LF - Emily M 8SH
Careers
It has been a busy term at the LPGS Careers Academy and I am pleased to say that we now have the fantastic Miss Day who has joined the team. Miss Day has had an instant impact, helping students in all year groups with their choices for the future, sourcing work experience placements and working with students to shortlist university and apprenticeship options.
Futures Fair February 2023
What a day! We welcomed over 40 employers and apprenticeship providers, and 18 universities to LPGS. All students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 visited the Futures Fair with Year 12 students also benefiting from talks on; applying to Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities, taking a gap year, writing an outstanding personal statement, studying abroad, and increasing their network and promoting their personal brands.
The feedback from the visiting employers and universities was outstanding with them all requesting to return next year because the students were so engaged. It makes me so proud to see so many students taking these opportunities so seriously, many of them gaining work experience from the employers they were speaking to.
Year 10 WEX programme
This year, all students in Year 10 will be complete a week’s work experience in the week 22nd – 26th May 2023. Students have been encouraged to pursue their own work experience by networking with friends and family. Many students have now returned their forms to us – thank you. If students need some help sourcing a placement, they are encouraged to come and speak to me or Miss Day. Can I please request that any outstanding forms are sent to us as soon as possible so we can get all placements checked in time.
Year 12 WEX programme
Students are reminded that the deadline for Year 12 work experience forms to be returned is Friday 28th April 2023. As with the Year 10 work experience programme, please encourage students to come and see me or Miss Day if they require any help or guidance with this.
World of Work Wednesday (WOWW) and National Apprenticeship week – a lot of speakers!
Fortnightly, the whole school takes part in WOWW. These are interactive sessions where professionals talk about their careers and where students are encouraged to ask questions to our speakers. I am very proud to say that every week we run out of time as there are so many great questions asked! All of these are recorded and can be watched on FireFly, under the careers academy page. We also celebrated National Apprenticeship week (6th – 10th February), hearing from apprentices working in various industries every morning:
This term we have already heard from:
World of Work Wednesday - Ellie Kirby - Lawyer (Financial Regulation and Financial Crime)

Visual Arts - Yr 7 Textiles: Ugly Doll project
Year 7s have been working hard to create their own Ugly Dolls based on the theme of identity. First they created their Ugly Dolls habitats, physical characteristics and personalities before creating initial ideas that are now being constructed using both hand sewing techniques and the sewing machine. Well done Year 7, we can’t wait to see your final outcomes!
Year 13 Chemistry Mix-up
Our Year 13 chemistry students had the fantastic opportunity to visit the Community Lab in Discovery Park, Sandwich to take part in the “Lab Mix-up” practical challenge. We took part in a stimulating range of activites during the course of the day, including the opportunity to use the facilities and equipment in an industry-standard laboratory. Students put their chemistry knowledge to good use in a problem solving workshop with Don Clark: an analytical chemist from Pfizer who describes his job as “chemical CSI”. We enjoyed an eye opening tour of Discovery Park, one of the largest science and technology parks in the UK, including a sneak preview of their newly refurbished lab spaces. The highlight of the day was the lab session led by Gemma Scotney, a process chemist from Pfizer, in which students applied their knowledge of analytical chemistry to identify a variety of mystery chemicals, Honing their practical techniques, students benefited from the fantastic resources and equipment available, including a bench-top NMR spectroscope, allowing them to experience the real life applications of some of the theories we learn in our chemistry lessons. Students also met bioanalysts from York Bioanalytical Solutions (Unilabs) as well as indulging in some fun chemistry board games. Our students did themselves proud; their lab skills and problem solving alike were commended by our hosts. We look forward to visiting again next year!
Women of the World (WoW) Festival
On the 10th of March, we went to the Women of the World (WoW) festival at the Southbank Centre. The atmosphere at the Women of the World Festival was so supportive and it was an extremely enjoyable experience. The first talk we listened to was an opening session on power and misogyny and it was a great introduction to what the rest of the day would be like.
After a short break we then listened to a talk about the musical 'Sylvia', and heard from Beverly Knight, who is in the show and the producer, as well as Helen Pankhurst, a descendant of Emmeline Pankhurst. In the next section, we heard from Ebinehita Iyere - author of Girlhood Unfiltered and founder of Milk Honey Bees - Shani Dhanda - an activist who campaigns for a more accessible future - Kate Parker - who works with the Schools Consent Project teaching students about consent and Professor Phillippa Diedrichs who aims to create a community where anyone feels safe and comfortable exercising.
During the next break we listened to a few songs performed by the group 'Women, Life, Freedom' who perform in solidarity for the women in Iran. After this, we took part in my favourite pop up of the day, the Curve Catwalk Dance. This dance workshop aims to build confidence and inspire people to have fun whilst dancing. I took part in the second part of the workshop and took the opportunity to dance down the "catwalk" with my friends.
The final talk we attended was with the author of 'The Power', the producer of the recently adapted show and an actress who stars in it. It was extremely inspiring and prompted me to think about what would happen of we lived in a matriarchal society instead of a patriarchal society.
Overall my favourite part of the day was the Curve Catwalk Dance however the whole day was incredibly enjoyable, and it was really nice to be in such a supportive environment surrounded by women.
Mariela A Year 10
We were very grateful for the opportunity to go to the WOW event. The panel was full of amazing, inspiring speakers who lead engaging talks & conversations about women’s rights and empowerment. We heard from many women in the media such as book authors of female centred storylines, campaign directors of women and girls’ sexual health issues and many more. What stood out to us was the real diversity and inclusion of the event: we were able to hear from speakers from many different countries from Australia to Turkey to Sierra Leone and America. We also had the opportunity to hear from a woman who suffers from brittle bones who spoke about her aim to make the world more accessible for disabled people and everyone else alike. As well as this, Intersectionality was addressed: issues such as race, disability and class were mentioned as other barriers to women aside from just gender.
We feel educated and inspired by the day and intrigued on how we can use what we have learnt to educate others. Not only was the day educational there were many opportunities to interact with others and we were even invited to dance up on stage! It was overall an informative, yet fun experience and I hope to be able to go the WOW conference next year.

Visual Arts - GCSE Fine Art
This term Year 10 GCSE Fine Art classes have been completing their first project, 'Surfaces and Structures'. The students have been full of enthusiasm and drive to explore new ideas, using their research on Maria Bartuszova from the Tate visit developing ideas for a final outcome.
Well done to Year 11 GCSE Fine Art classes who are near the end of their final project and exam on the theme of Lock. Students have been working very hard to complete all their work and making sure their sketchbooks are well researched, creative and developed for their final outcome in the week beginning 24th April.

Dance - Mix Tape Volume 3
On Friday 3rd March 185 students performed in our annual dance show Mix Tape Volume 3. We had a sell-out audience of nearly 500, which made for an incredible atmosphere. We are very proud of each and every one of the performers, showing such commitment and dedication to dance. Below three students recall their experience of performing in the show and explain what dance at LPGS means to them. The video is currently being edited and will be shared with everyone in the summer term. We hope you will join us next Spring for Mix Tape Volume 4 on Friday 1st March 2024. Mrs White and Miss Davis.
“Being part of mix tape was such a positive experience, the after school clubs were fun and we learnt new things every week. Both the teachers and students were so encouraging, and enthusiastic. Show night had such an amazing atmosphere performing – I can’t wait for next year!” Isla V Year 8
“A passion is something you love, something you do in your spare time. Dance is something I love, it’s one of my biggest passions and LPGS has helped me develop as a dancer by giving me the opportunity to perform. Through dance I have grown in confidence and have made lots of new friends from different year groups. We expressed emotion through the dances, and I really liked how diverse the dances were, touching very important and sensitive subjects such as recent earthquakes and the civil rights movement alongside fun sections such as the commercial dance in Mini Mix Tape. By dancing you can unlock a new world of communication, experiences and relationships and this is why I encourage students in the lower school to continue to grow their passion for dance and that is something we can really do at LPGS”. Skye F Year 10
“Mix Tape volume 3 was an amazing opportunity for me to share the hard work I put into my GCSE solo with an audience. I think that if my younger self could know that I had the confidence to perform my own choreography by myself on stage, she wouldn’t believe it, and I’m so thankful to the dance department for all their help and encouraging me and giving me these opportunities to grow into the dancer that I am today. Some of my very fondest memories come from LPGS dance show and l will cherish these forever.” Bella B Year 11

Hamlet through young eyes
Back in January Years 12 and 13 English Literature students took a trip to the Southwark Playhouse to see Hamlet. They enjoyed a modern performance, as told through the eyes of the young characters in the play, without any adult cast. What an exciting and thought provoking way for our students to experience the play.
Othello by The National Theatre Live
Year 13 Language and Literature students went off to see a National Theatre Live production of Othello, at the cinema. Touted as ‘an extraordinary new production…’ it was a fantastic, up-to-date, way for the students to view Shakespeare’s work.
Jack Petchey ‘Speak Out’ Challenge
On the 27th February we held Speak Out workshops for 60 of our Year 10 students. The aim of the Speak Out Challenge is to improve the confidence and self-esteem of students when talking in front of a group of peers. The workshops involved experts sharing their tips and knowledge, insights on overcoming nerves and learning how to build a speech from scratch.
Out of the 60 students just 6 were chosen by the workshop facilitators to perform in an assembly final on the 9th March, an amazing achievement! Huge congratulations to Tia J-M who won the assembly final and went to the regional final, along with Sahar A, at Bishop Justus school. Both students did incredibly well and were fantastic ambassadors for the school. Well done!
Reader Leaders
Our Reader Leaders are a very dedicated and supportive group of Year 12 students who spend time reading texts with some of our Year 8 students. As well as helping with understanding and explaining new vocabulary, they build fantastic peer to peer relationships and go above and beyond in supporting the younger students. We have to give a special mention to Aishwarya K in Year 13, who now has a small group of Year 10 students under her wing. Well done to all of our Reader Leaders.
Wednesday lunchtime clubs
There is always something interesting and creative going on in the library on Wednesday lunchtimes! On week A, you can find our Write On… Creative Writing club playing writing games, discussing competitions and sharing ideas. Whether attending the Creative Writing club or not, we are always taking part in writing competitions. There are details up in the library and around the school and many of our students will be familiar with the Young Writers competitions that we’ve been so successful with. Numerous students are now in print for entries into Integer and Power of Poetry competitions.
On week B, the Lit in Colour Book Club meets to look at and discuss what current books we’re reading, sharing reviews and recommendations. On both weeks biscuits are provided! The library is closed to all other students at these times.
Read Wellbeing Inter-House Competition
The Read Wellbeing Inter-House competition is up and running NOW! All students have to do is log onto Firefly and fill out the form with a review for any book they’ve just read, submit reviews and earn points for their house. Lit in Colour books get double points and we have a whole section of these available in the library. Which house will be this year’s champion? The Celebrating Reading Cup will be awarded to the winning house AND there are points and prizes up for grabs for the most thoughtful reviews.
Book Swap Shelf
We now have a wonderful little area outside the English office dedicated to our Book Swap Station. All students are welcome to take a book and leave a book. There’s a small selection of study texts available as well as a mixture of poetry, general fiction and more. Donations welcome.
Coming up…
Year 12 Literature students have an upcoming trip to The British Library for a workshop that will take them on a literary journey to uncover the last 400 years of Black British writing. They will take part in a range of activities, including exploring manuscripts from the Treasures of The British Library gallery.
SCIENCE
Sofia M writes about her motivation behind creating a new website for Science.
As a student who has been interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, for a few years now, I have researched a multitude of topics that I find fascinating. I enjoy teaching others about the information I learn and so, alongside presenting in a medical society, I decided to combine my love for healthcare and teaching others, by creating an online magazine.
The seed of my motivation, to go forward with this website, rooted from the opportunity I was able to create for myself, as well as for the group of people I brought together, all of whom were then able to delve further into their areas of interest.
In designing this website, I intend to advance my technical skills. I also hope that this platform will be an invaluable addition to any Langley students who are, like me, interested in pursuing a healthcare profession. It is online, so easily accessible and covers a wide range of topics that are science and medicine - related. Current affairs, discussions regarding medicine/dentistry/veterinary, book recommendations and tips on applying to healthcare professions are all included.

International Women’s Day at LPGS
On Wednesday 8th March it was International Women’s Day and this year’s theme was Embrace Equity.
We had assemblies in the week about how far gender equality has come in the last 100 years, but also learned how much there is still to do to reach full gender parity. We explored the campaign theme to get us talking about the difference between equality and equity and why equal opportunities aren't always enough. We learned that people start from different places, so true inclusion and belonging require equitable action.
Students took part in International Women’s Day themed activities in lessons and form time and at lunchtime Feminist Society ran a celebration in the Hall with music, sweets and feminist stickers. Students had a chance to share which women inspires them and why on our inspirational women display. Year 10 and 12 ended the week by attending the Women of the World Conference at the Southbank Centre.
Year 8 - Creative Digital Media
As part of their Visual Art curriculum all students at LPGS take part in a termly Creative Digital Media project (or CDM for short). CDM means making art through digital technology. This year students in Year 8 are taking part in a documentary film project where they work in small production teams to explore and present aspects of their school environment and community. They learn some techniques in recording video and sound using their phones and iPads and how to edit a short film using Adobe Primer Rush.
To understand the process, students learn how to analyse and interpret other films. The Empowerment Project which is a documentary film, follows a group of filmmakers as they honor the women in their lives. Charlotte Regan’s No Ball Games is a short observational film about the life and games of disadvantaged children across the UK. Regan uses beautifully composed shots that give a glimpse into the children's lives. They also look at more experimental ways of telling stories, like the work of TikTok filmmaker Madeline Turner, who uses text and snappy editing to keep her viewers engaged. Students explore the context from which films like this are made and the message behind them, then develop their own ideas.
Students interviewed teachers, technicians, site staff and caterers and explored themes of school, learning, friendship, kindness, fun and games and mental health. So far, they have made films that show a typical day in the life of a student at LPGS, what's on the lunch menu, and the Visual Art and PE departments, to name just a few.

THE LANGLEY LIONESSES – IT CAME HOME!!
This season of football has been nothing short of phenomenal! A massive thank you to all who have been involved, attended training and played in matches. We have created our own bit of history this year off the back of the Lionesses in the summer, as along came our Langley Lionesses who brought it home to become U12 Kent Champions. This is the first time we have ever reached a Kent final and become Kent Champions, a phenomenal achievement, well done to the whole team!
Additionally, this team remain unbeaten, having only conceded 3 goals all season, and play in the Bromley Cup semi-final on Tuesday 28th March against Bullers Wood, good luck to them all!
We have regularly had over 25 students at Key Stage 3 training on Tuesday, which has been fantastic. A massive thank you to Alice S and Claudia D who have been coaching the team, they have both been fantastic and led training excellently!
We have seen great success across all year groups, including our Year 8 team who have also reached the Bromley Cup semi-final and will play Hayes, good luck to them too! The Year 9, 10 and 11s were narrowly beaten 4-3 by Bonus Pastor in the Bromley Cup, but played some excellent football throughout the season and are looking forward to next season already!
Finally, our U18 team remain in the hunt to become Kent Champions, as they have their semi-final against Harris Falconwood due to be played after Easter. They have played some great football on route to the semi-final, wishing them the best of luck too!
We have also had football enrichment, which has been fantastically led by our sports coaches across both terms. Thank you and well done to Eden N, Alice S, Jessica G, Emily P, Megan B, Holly D and Claudia D. They have been such excellent role models to their fellow students.
I must also say thank you to our sponsors, Winkworth Beckenham, Ellen Budgen Travel and Karma Studios, who have provided brand new kit for all of our teams. The teams love their new kit!
It has been a phenomenal season and I am already looking forward to next year! It has been so wonderful to see so many students playing football, fellow students coaching each other and loving the game! Wishing the best of luck to all teams still in competitions and bring on next year!

Students had the opportunity to meet with over 100 different universities, find out about different post-18 options and pathways, listen to live expert talks and receiving the latest advice and information on different careers choices first hand.
Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and found the vent useful. See what some of our Year 12 students had to say about the morning:
“It was an extremely valuable experience because of the plethora of universities that were there to inform us of all our possible future endeavours.” Mia H
“The event gave great insight into all the possible future opportunities there are in the world of work.” Krystal-Eve J
“The UCAS discovery exhibition enhanced my understanding of the application process for university.” Bridget M
Road Safety Talk
As part of their spring term PSHCE programme Year 12 students received a talk from the Road Safety Officer for Bromley Council on young driver education. The event took place at Langley Park School for Boys and covered a range of important and relevant topics. Some of the topics covered were:
• Passing the test, being legal and speed
• Drink and drugs
• Mobile phones and seatbelt wearing
With most of our Year 12 students either beginning the process of learning how to drive or passing their driving test this was a very valuable talk.
Year 13 - Y13 Prom Fundraising – Year 7 Movie Night
The Year 13 prom is taking place on Thursday 29th June at The Manor, Bickley and our Year 13 prefect team and Mrs Williams and Ms Klawiter have been busy planning a number of fundraising opportunities to ensure the night is a success. One of these fundraisers was hosting a year 7 movie night. Over 50 year 7 students turned up and enjoyed a movie screening watching the ever popular ‘Matilda’. It really was a spectacular evening and hopefully the first of many successful fundraising events!
Y11 Textiles - Spotlight on Uxia M 11SH
Y11 GCSE Textiles student Uxia M has wowed both their fellow classmates and me since the start of Year 10. Uxia’s garment constructions have been both creative and original for both coursework projects, Structures & Surfaces and Fragments. Uxia has developed a whole host of creative skills such as machine and hand embroidery, digital pattern making and a wide range of fabric manipulation techniques. I look forward to seeing how Uxia applies her creative talents to her final GCSE exam piece.
