Corey Times September 12th, 2022

LATEST NEWS

During the past two weeks of school, we have been engaged in our Beginning of the Year Assessments. The information gathered will provide us with invaluable information as we support students in their learning. Even in the midst of the assessment period, we still had time to engage in various learning activities.

We also enjoyed having members of the Apex Team join us. They were actively engaged with our students in Leadership lessons, recess, drop-off, dismissal and various incentives during our fundraiser. Our Fun Run was an absolute success, as students were so driven and focused as they ran around the track. Our volunteers, Multiple Intelligence team and Apex team cheered us on. We also enjoyed time with friends! We would like to thank our families and friends for all the contributions during our fundraiser. Thank you!

For those who want to see documents (like the Corey Times) in Spanish, watch the video below. This video is in Spanish. All you need to do is hover over the title area, right-click and select "Translate to Spanish". The first time, if Spanish is not visible, click on the "three dots" and select the Spanish language. This will allow you to toggle between English and Spanish.

VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS

Please remember that student safety is our number one priority. All visitors to the campus, without exception, need to ring our doorbell at the front doors to request access into the building. You will need to state your name, name of student, and reason for the visit. All visitors need to provide a valid picture identification to be processed through the system and obtain a visitor's pass. This visitor's pass/sticker (or volunteer pass) should be worn in a visible area at all times. Visitors must exit through the office area and turn in their visitor pass/sticker. For safety reasons, we need to know who is in our building at all times.

No visitors will be allowed for breakfast, but will be allowed for lunch. We have many students in the cafeteria before school starts, so we ask for your assistance in making sure that we can manage the quantity of students safely. Please remember that only those individuals listed on the student's registration form will be able to have access to students during the day to join them for lunch or pick-up.

Conferences and volunteer opportunities need to be pre-scheduled with the teacher/s or through our Corey Cubs PTA volunteer program. If you haven't done so already, please consider completing an AISD Volunteer Application for this school year.

There should be no un-scheduled visits to classrooms - even from volunteers.

school safety

Please take a moment to look over AISD's Safety webpage. It contains definitions of the types of emergencies, district protocols, Security Tracker, FAQ's and other important information.

Please see video below with Frequently Asked Questions from parents answered by Arlinton ISD's Security Team.

food and nutrition

Please see important information below about school meals:

"During the pandemic, the Arlington ISD was able to offer no cost meals to all students due to temporary program flexibilities provided by the federal government. These flexibilities have expired. In the 2022-23 school year, schools are required to return to charging for school meals on the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) based on program eligibility."

Please see application link below for the Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications.

If you need to add money to your child’s account, please see information below about the “PayPams program”

You can also access the daily menu for Corey Academy at the link below. The price for breakfast is $1.55. The lunch price is $3.05.

If you need additional information, please visit the Food and Nutrition Services webpage.

attendance

September is Attendance Awareness Month across the nation. Research suggests that attendance in the first month of school is critical because it predicts attendance for the rest of the year. For the best success, students should be in class. Read more at: https://www.aisd.net/district.../good-attendance-starts-now/.

We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.

AISD has an Attendance Policy (found in the Student Code of Conduct). Please see important information below:

Please remember the following from AISD's Attendance Policy:

  • It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to call the school each day of absence by 10 a.m. to explain the absence of the student. The purpose in notifying the school is to promote that both the school and the family are aware that we can account for each student. All absences not cleared within 24 hours are unexcused. If the student had a medical appointment, the note shall be turned into the appropriate attendance office.
  • Vacation or business trips are not recognized by the state as acceptable reasons for students being out of school and will be treated as unexcused. Therefore, these days should be planned only for school holidays that do not disrupt student learning or cause loss of credit.

counselor's corner

Our Counselor, Mrs. Young, provides supports to our students and staff in a multitude of ways. Please see brochure below, with some general information about Corey Academy's counseling program and all the wonderful ways Mrs. Young interacts with our students.
