LATEST NEWS
During this time of year we are celebrating the beginning of fall, Hispanic Heritage month, and the end of the First Six Weeks. We have a deep sense of accomplishment as our students have been successful in their first Curriculum Assessment, while also enjoying Science experiments, completing projects with friends (tableaux, Story Element posters, etc.), discussions in Spanish (math and in Spanish Language and Culture class), "Just Say Yes" program and National Dance Day! We even had time for a surprise visit from our Corey mascot (in the process of being named).
For those who want to see documents (like the Corey Times) in Spanish, watch the video below. This video is in Spanish. All you need to do is hover over the title area, right-click and select "Translate to Spanish". The first time, if Spanish is not visible, click on the "three dots" and select the Spanish language. This will allow you to toggle between English and Spanish.
national dance day
We would like to thank everyone who came out to the National Dance Day event at Gunn Junior High and Fine Arts and Dual Language Academy last week. We appreciate our volunteers, family support, our friends from Gunn and Jones, our outstanding staff members, Gunn Dance crew captains and co-captains, and our talented students. We even saw parents enjoying some dance moves on stage with our students!
Picture day
Our Fall Picture Day will be on October 14, 2022. All students will be photographed for the yearbook. Please see schedule below.
gifted and talented
Referrals for AISD’s Gifted and Talented Services are being accepted and may be received from any teacher, parent, or member of the community at-large. GT referral forms initiate the process and can be obtained from your student’s teacher or the GT Lead Teacher at the elementary campus. As part of GT identification practices, AISD routinely uses universal screeners in kindergarten, second and fourth grades.
Please contact our GT Lead Teacher, Mrs. Talamantez, if you have any questions or would like a copy of the parent referral form. Her email is ctalaman@aisd.net.
attendance
We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.
This Six Weeks, we will begin an incentive program to recognize excellent attendance. Each classroom will be able to earn extra prizes as we track their attendance rates. We have individual classroom goals, as well as recognizing the classroom with the highest attendance rate for the Six Week period. Our attendance goal as a campus is to reach at least 96.8% of students present.
Please take a moment to read AISD's blog: "Chronic Absence Equals Poor Performance" at the link below.

Corey has not had a real mascot since the academy began! Thanks to the PTA we have a new one!
We want to know YOUR help naming it. PTA needs name suggestions from students like you.
