What is it?

Design thinking is a creative approach to problem-solving. Creativity is harnessed through continued practice and providing opportunities to apply it. We believe that by providing Design Thinking at the school, we harness our student’s creativity and provide the capability to go beyond adapting to normal routines and ordinary thinking practices. Design thinking starts with people. It’s about putting human needs at the centre of what we do. It’s about simple mindset shifts and new ways of looking at problems through Empathy and Collaboration.

For an idea to be both meaningful and successful, our students would be exploring things around them with Empathy, Ideation, Prototyping and Application with feasibility, desirability and viability. Making their way through this path, children can naturally design processes that will make lives better for the whole human race.

The Design Thinking practice at the school is embedded in the Co-Curricular activities and in timetabled classes. Students, with their interest groups, explore the various phases of design thinking and come up with creative solutions to problems that they are passionate about. The skills of design thinking will help students take the biggest of their challenges and build their creative competence with the support of caring and creative mentors.

STEM Club

To encourage and inculcate scientific temper among students, the STEM Exhibition served as a platform for young minds to depict implementation and advantages of using real-life working models through Design thinking which is our leading framework in ABLE. In addition to helping children understand the skills for the STEM club, we also incorporated the development of empathy, defining a problem, ideation, prototyping and testing. Students presented work on various projects like making stairs for bus students, pollution catcher, walker for disabled people, making pen organizer out of waste materials, LED working model (wooden house), air pressure with balloon car and many more which was highly appreciated by parents who came to witness the work done by our budding Einsteins.

Along with the presentation of working models, display of Innovations toolkits and materials made by students, they also organized different stations for their parents to solve and unlock the mysteries. These activities for parents was to enhance their problem and critical thinking skills such as mystery puzzles, matchsticks, stop-animation videos and drop the pompom ball.

Students enthusiastically engaged and displayed innovation and creativity inculcating a sense of pride among themselves, as they get an opportunity to hone their scientific talents and work on their problem-solving skills. These activities helped them in understanding why certain phenomena appear a certain way and how useful they can be in one’s daily routine. The exhibition was indeed fun and a successful learning journey for our PYP STEM children!
