Eight Drexel Teams Achieve Perfect NCAA APR Scores

Eight of Drexel's varsity athletic programs - five women's and three men's teams - scored a perfect 1000 on the NCAA's most recent Academic Performance Rate for 2020-21. On the women's side, basketball, field hockey, soccer, swimming and diving and tennis topped the list, while golf, tennis and wrestling achieved the feat on the men's side.

Three teams scored a 1000 multi-year rate. The teams earning that distinction were men's tennis, women's tennis and women's swimming and diving. In addition, 14 of Drexel's 15 NCAA-sponsored teams are above the four-year national average. Overall, the Colonial Athletic Association was tied for fourth among the nation's 32 Division I conferences.

  • 317: Student-Athletes Named to CAA Commissioner's Honor Roll (Fall or Spring) (94%)
  • 3.34: Cumulative Student-Athlete GPA (Fall/Winter/Spring)
  • 39%: Student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.60+

317 Dragons Named to CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Rolls

Excelling in the classroom, 317 Drexel student-athletes (94 percent of those eligible) were named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll during the 2021-22 academic year. During the spring term 281 were recognized, while 276 were honored in the fall. Those totals include 242 who earned the distinction during both terms.

Student-Athletes on the commissioner's Academic Honor Roll must have participated in a CAA sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the designated academic term and been enrolled as a full-time student.

Harris Selected as NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee

Karson Harris (Women's Lacrosse) was chosen as the Colonial Athletic Association's nominee for the prestigious NCAA Woman of the Year Award. One of two nominees from the CAA and one of only 53 Division I nominees nationwide, Harris is Drexel's first conference nominee since 2010. Overall, more than 220,000 female student-athletes compete across all NCAA divisions.

Donovan Named Men's Soccer Academic All-American

After a record-setting season, Chris Donovan was named to the CoSIDA Men's Soccer Academic All-America Second Team. The sport management major, who boasts a 3.55 GPA, became the fourth Drexel men’s soccer player to earn Academic All-America honors. Donovan was also named to the Academic All-District First Team, the United Soccer Coaches Division I Men's Scholar All-America Second Team and as the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year.

DiMeo, Fuentes, Schneidereith Selected as CAA Leadership and Sports Excellence Winners

Kristi DiMeo (Softball), Mya Fuentes (Women's tennis) and Lucy Schneidereith (Women's Lacrosse) were named the Colonial Athletic Association Leadership and Sports Excellence Award winners in their respective sports. The Leadership and Sports Excellence Award is presented by the CAA to one student-athlete in each sport who represents the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in his or her academic and athletic achievements.

Washington Tabbed CAA Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year

In recognition of her performance on the court and in the classroom, Keishana Washington was named the CAA Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The First Team All-CAA selection is a psychology major with a 3.74 GPA.

Dragons Receive CAA Team Academic Excellence Awards

Drexel matched a conference best with four squads earning CAA Team Academic Excellence awards. The awards recognize the institution with the highest collective grade point average in all 22 sports sponsored by the conference.

The four teams recognized included:

  • Men's Basketball
  • Women's Basketball
  • Men's Swimming & Diving
  • Men's Tennis

DRAGONS GIVE BACK

Play Day at Vidas

Drexel SAAC and West Philadelphia Promise Neighborhood joined together for the first-ever Play Day at Vidas. Student-athletes and staff joined members of the local community to play games and enjoy lunch before cheering on Men's Soccer as it hosted Northeastern.

MLK Day of Service

Dragon student-athletes gave back by teaming up with Alain Locke Public School to clean up the school grounds and the West Philadelphia Community.

Read Across America

Drexel student-athletes and members of SAAC participated in the Read Across America Program by participating in reading and activities with students at Martha Washington Elementary School.

Service and Community Engagement

Drexel student-athletes demonstrated their commitment to West Philadelphia and the local community by participating in a broad range of department and team service initiatives throughout the year. Among the activities Dragons participated in were:
