Corey Times November 18th, 2022

LATEST NEWS

There is something about fall in Texas (in spite of how short it is) that makes you appreciate family, friends, and to count all our blessings! It is also a time when we ramp up on the number of activities that we engage in as a campus, and the multiple opportunities we provide for our students. We have been even busier than usual, focusing on engaging learning activities, multicultural celebrations, honoring our Veterans, our PTA sponsored Corey Carnival, Parental Involvement Week, and our Musical (AristoCats Kids). After this whirlwind of activities, we hope that everyone enjoys the week off for our Fall Break. We wish you a restful and heart-warming Thanksgiving with loved ones.

school musical

We are so impressed with the incredible production of our school musical, "The AristoCats Kids". Our students and production team rehearsed for countless hours to make the show a reality. A huge thank you to Mr. Rosales (Musical Director), Ms. Ready (Theatrical Director), Mrs. Phelps (Solo Vocalist Coach), Mrs. Yarbrough (Choreographer), Mrs. Uribe (Program Design), Mrs. Ray and Ms. Carbuccia (Set Design), and Mr. Green (Student Teacher). We would also like to thank our parents and guardians for all the support and assistance.

application window Kinder cohort 2023-2024

We are currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 Kinder cohort. The application window is now open and will close at 5:00 p.m. on January 18th.

We will host two Parent Information Nights (which include a tour of the building) on December 6th and January 10th. These meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m.

attendance

We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.

In addition to the benefits to our students, attendance plays a key role in how our district (and school) is funded. Absences (excused or unexcused) are factored into our attendance rate as a campus.

Our attendance goal as a campus is to reach at least 96.8% of students present. We were unable to reach our Attendance Goal for the Second Six Weeks. Our Attendance Rate was at 95.18%.

Please continue to bring your child/children to school daily (unless they are ill) so that we help them create positive habits that will be of value for the rest of their lives.

Veteran's Day Program

The Veteran's Day Program, sponsored by the Corey PTA, was truly moving and inspiring. We enjoyed performances by the choir and dance crew. The video tribute to our Corey family Veterans filled us with pride and gratitude for their service to our country. We were also able to recognize the Reflections award finalists.

Corey Carnival

The Corey Carnival sponsored by our Corey Cubs PTA was incredibly fun. Our families enjoyed food served by our Corey Dad's Club, pony rides, obstacle courses, face painting, train rides, vendors, and games. What an incredible team of volunteers who provided us with this opportunity. It was great to see all our smiling faces on a cool fall day!

national parental involvement week

We are so fortunate at Corey Academy to have such a strong learning community. Our volunteers go above and beyond to support our numerous events. Our Corey PTA is instrumental in coordinating these efforts. We are so thankful to all our volunteers who came out this week to support the various endeavors such as working the Book Fair, volunteering to serve or sell tickets during the Thanksgiving Feast, or selling concessions during the Musical.

Grandparents' Luncheon

We had more than 180 visitors join us for the Grandparents' Luncheon this past Tuesday, November 15th. It warmed our hearts to see the joy in students' faces as they welcomed their loved family members. Thank you for coming out to celebrate the day with us and for being so generous in the Book Fair! What a special day!

Thanksgiving Feast

We are so thankful for our cafeteria staff and the many hours they spend preparing meals for us! We had help from some wonderful volunteers as we enjoyed the Thanksgiving Feast with our families. We love to have visitors at Corey, and appreciate the sense of community.
