Spring Term 1 2021 / 2022 Mapplewell Primary school newsletter

The start of 2022 has been a busy yet enjoyable couple of months. It has been great to see our pupils back in school, learning, playing and having fun!

I would also like to celebrate the high levels of involvement we have had from parents / carers in our online workshops over the last few months. It has been fantastic to see so many of you join us. We look forward to future workshops and continuing to work with you.

We hope this newsletter showcases the wonderful events, experiences and learning that have taken place over Spring Term 1 and that you enjoy browsing through the Class Newsletters embed within and chatting to your children about the content.

Exciting hooks and outcomes for learning

Hooks into learning have driven pupils engagement this half term and were introduced in the first week back to engage our pupils in their new topics. Our school focus for topic was DT and over the half term we have seen many new skills learnt and applied into final outcome pieces. (Class Newsletters will showcase this in much more detail so please do have a look).

KS1 teachers hooked their classes into 'Celebration Tea Party' by introducing them to the outcome of a kindness tea party for our dinner staff. The pupils have learnt to join materials to make bunting and cake stands and have prepared fresh food for the final tea party outcome!

Lower Key Stage 2 pupils were sent a letter from Hogwarts themselves to introduce them to their topic of Wizards. This half term they have explored materials and designed and created their very own wands. They then celebrated the outcome having a wonderful Harry Potter themed day.

Upper Key Stage 2 were blown away by the visit of a Lamborghini and so were the staff! The pupils were instantly hooked into their Top Gear topic! They used woodwork skills to design and make their very own cars!

New starters

It has been an absolute pleasure to welcome our new intake into Nursery. Every child has been an absolute superstar and we are so proud of their attitudes towards starting school. We cannot wait to see them grow further in the Summer Term.

sporting competitions

It has been great to see our pupils taking part in competitive sporting events and representing the school. Win or lose we are proud of you all!

Children's mental health week

As we all already know mental health is just as important as our physical health so this half term we promoted 'Children's Mental Health Week' in school starting by dressing to impress and embracing our individuality and personality. Classes then completed other activities in class throughout the week focusing on this years theme of 'Growing Together'.

Internet Safety

This half term also brought Internet Safety Day where we promoted the importance of keeping safe whilst online. Thank you to all the parents/carers who attended our online parent workshop focusing on this.

National Story Telling week

We absolutely loved celebrating National Story Telling Week this year. It was a true pleasure to see so many videos of families sharing stories at home uploaded to Seesaw. Story time is was of the most enjoyable activities parents can do with their children and it was great to see our pupils are clearly exposed to this on a regular basis. We also had fun in school sharing stories to different classes over the week.

Proud of our community

Our School Council teamed together with Greenspace to prepare our local community for the beauty of Spring. The rain and cold weather certainly didn't stop them from planting daffodil bulbs along the fence between school and the park. We cannot wait to see them blossom.

Attendance

It was a huge pleasure to give out 189 certificates for pupils who met our school target of 97% over Autumn Term. There were lots of smiling faces as they took home an attendance prize! Let's see who can get one for Spring Term.

We also continue to celebrate attendance in school on a weekly basis and classes with the highest attendance are awarded with a class Amazon voucher.

Our attendance to date is: 95.4%
