LATEST NEWS

Our Winter Break is right around the corner! We hope you are able to enjoy this time with loved ones and to recharge as we begin the hectic second semester of school. These last few weeks have been a time to showcase our students' multiple talents in events such as the Art Show, our Winter Concert, our Dance Crew's performance at the Dallas Zoo and some of our talented Corey Cubs' performance with the Arlington Nutcracker Ballet. We were also able to enjoy performances from Arlington High School's Choraliers and alumni visit from Gunn FADL and Jr. High. Our students amazed us with their Spelling prowess during the Spelling Bee. Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Champion Alyssa R. and our Runner Up, Charlie W. Our contestants did so well!

Winter Concert

We are so impressed with the performances from our Percussion Ensemble, our Choir, the Dance Crew and Orchestra. We greatly appreciated Mr. Rosales (and Student Teacher Mr. Green), Mrs. Yarbrough, and Mr. Sibley for instilling such a sense of excellence as they work with our students. It was such an extravaganza of talent.

Dance Crew at the Dallas Zoo Lights

Our Dance Crew brought holiday cheer as they performed at the Dallas Zoo Lights Event. Students delighted the audience with two whole group performances, as well as several student-choreographed numbers from pairs/group performers.

Art Show at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts

Twelve students' artwork was selected to be a part of Arlington ISD's Art Show at the CVPA. We are so proud of our students! Thank you, Ms. Ray and Ms. Carbuccia for supporting and helping us all grow as artists!

Campus visits

We were so entertained by the Arlington High School Choraliers' performance! We enjoyed beautiful singing (and a good chuckle or two).

We had multiple groups visit from Gunn FADL Academy and Jr. High during their Holiday Tour. We had performances from the Band, Theatre, Dance, Piano, Choir and Orchestra. We were so excited to see some of our own Corey Cub alumni come back to visit.

application window Kinder cohort 2023-2024

We are currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 Kinder cohort. The application window is now open and will close at 5:00 p.m. on January 18th.

We will host our next Parent Information Night (which includes a tour of the building) on January 10th. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.

attendance

We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.

In addition to the benefits to our students, attendance plays a key role in how our district (and school) is funded. Absences (excused or unexcused) are factored into our attendance rate as a campus.

Our attendance goal as a campus is to reach at least 96.8% of students present. We were unable to reach our Attendance Goal for the Second Six Weeks. Our Attendance Rate was at 95.18%.

Please continue to bring your child/children to school daily (unless they are ill) so that we help them create positive habits that will be of value for the rest of their lives.

As part of our Attendance Incentive plan, each class colors in the word ATTENDANCE one letter at a time. They can color a letter when the class has "Perfect Attendance" for the day. Each class is working towards their own rewards when they have colored in the whole word. We would like to thank Ms. Neason (1st grade grandparent) for creating our amazing Corey Perfect Attendance Trophy. Classes are able to enjoy the trophy for the day when the whole word is colored in!

Holiday Mercado

We would like to thank our Corey PTA for another outstanding shopping experience with the Holiday Mercado. We know that countless hours are invested in purchasing and wrapping the gifts, as well as helping students make selections. Our students had a blast shopping for loved ones (and for themselves).

Our Multicultural Committee collaborated with our Corey PTA in providing "Holidays Around the World" activities for our students as they waited during the Holiday Mercado shopping. Our students had an opportunity to learn about Diwali, Ramadan, Posadas, Hanukkah, and Kawanza. They also completed activities related to the holiday celebration. A huge thank you to Ms. Acevedo for helping us with some of the display boards.

Polar Express Movie Night

Our Corey PTA hosted a Polar Express Movie Night. We had so much fun wearing pajamas, snuggling with our blankets while eating popcorn and drinking hot chocolate. It was a night to remember! Students also received bells to celebrate the season.

staff and volunteer recognition

Corey Staff Hall of Fame

Every six week period, our PTA recognizes three amazing staff members who show "Passion for the Work", "Dedication to the Team" or "Commitment to Personal Growth". Mrs. Trevino - Passion for the Work

Mrs. Gonzales - Dedication to the Team

Mrs. Yarbrough - Commitment to Personal Growth

Corey Volunteer Hall of Fame

We are so blessed at Corey Academy to have such a supportive group of volunteers. Our volunteers pour time and effort into helping our school run smoothly, supporting our students, and supporting our staff.
