Summer Term 1 2021 2022 Mapplewell Primary School Newsletter

Although this half term has been quite short the learning and achievements that have taken place have been huge! As you read over this newsletter I ask you to remind yourself of just how wonderful your child/children are. Not a term, month, week or even a day goes by without them making me proud and this half term has been full of opportunities to shine.

Mrs Padfield

Walk to school week

It was brilliant to see so many of our pupils taking part in 'Walk to School Week' this year. In school we promoted the benefits of walking to school each day and discussed how this could positively impact on physical and mental health whilst also supporting the local environment and reducing the pollution created by car fumes. @BarnsleyMoving #whatsyourmove

Year 6 SATS

There is no other word than ... AMAZING to describe our Year 6 pupils during SATs week this half term. They certainly did themselves proud. They continually worked hard, remained resilient, supported one another and showed determination to do their very best each day. This cohort of children are a credit to the school and we look forward to celebrating with them when results are out in July.

Our morning breakfast club was also a huge success, they laughed, relaxed and had good old fun with their friends!

year 2 sats

As our Year 2 pupils come to the end of their time in Key Stage 1 they completed their assessments with pride. They demonstrated independence and the ability to share all they have learnt over the last 2 years. Well done to each and every one of them - you are and will continue to be super stars!

School council teamed with greenspace

Our School Council continue to work hard and this half term have built a relationship with Greenspace to work collaboratively on improving our local environment. We will keep you informed of any work they complete over the coming weeks.

BYC Singathon

Our participation in HCAT Singathon was a huge success and our school alone raised a fantastic £487 to help send children in Barnsley Youth Choir to Edinburgh. Please talk to your child about their experience in this day and their enjoyment in singing, it would be great to see some of our pupils join BYC soon. School Evaluation Review

We are pleased to share with you our Summer Term School Evaluation went incredibly well and that we are continuing to improve our offer to ensure your children are given the very best. Our hard working staff deserve a huge shout out not only for their efforts on the day but everyday as they continue to provide the highest quality of teaching - thank you! And further thanks is to be given to the wider team at HCAT who have supported the school and continue to work with us to develop further.

TTRS Day

As always our pupils loved TTRS day and not only did they dress to impress but they worked hard to score well in the competition. Class 6 totally smashed it and were awarded highest scoring class across the Trust!

Art Gallery

Our whole school topics this half term have been focused on Art. We have developed skills over the weeks to present our creative final outcomes which we were proud to share with you in our Art Gallery.

Sporting opportunities continue...

We continue to take part in sporting competitions and events across the borough and enjoy every minute of it. Well done to all our pupils who have taken part.

summer fair

Our School Summer Fair is due to take place on Friday 27th May and we cannot wait to see you all there. This year there will be ample stalls for your child to get involved with along with 2 amazing raffles with extremely generous prizes, including Cannon Hall Farm, Soar Trampoline Park, Parkway Cinema and Whistle Stop Valley!

Our School Council have also communicated with the local businesses within the village and many generous donations have been made for the adult raffle. Thank you to everyone who has supported this event - it is much appreciated!

Further photos and events to be shared after the event.

attendance celebrations

As always we continue to celebrate positive attendance in school and this term gave out ??? certificates and prizes for children who met our target of 97%+ over Spring term. We also introduced a weekly prize in a spin the wheel opportunity to win if you have been in school all week. Well done to those who have been in the draw to far. Remember you have got to be in it to win it!

Thank a teacher

Finally bringing this half terms newsletter to an end let's not forget to thank the wonderful teachers and support staff we have at Mapplewell Primary School. Each day they go above and beyond to ensure the best possible outcomes for our pupils. I am sure this does not go unnoticed so please join me in saying "Thank you for your ongoing hard work, your positive attitude and your determination to continually improve to ensure our pupils are provided with the best possible education and well-being that can be offered."

Thursday 26th May was Thank A Teacher Day, but at Mapplewell we recognise that it is not only teachers we need to pay our thanks to but the wider team as well, our marvellous support staff, our hard working office team, our amazing kitchen staff, our fabulous dinner ladies and not forgetting the one and only Mr Lunn!
