Summer Term 1 2022 / 2023 Mapplewell Primary School Newsletter

Summer Term 1 was a busy term with lots of learning, activities and fun taking place across school. Not to forget the sun finally began to shine! Children have smiled, laughed, learnt, discussed and expressed themselves as individuals in many ways.

It is this time of the year when we all begin to reflect on how much our children have grown, learnt, developed and matured. It is clear to see across school that every child has made us proud since starting the academic year in September 2022 and we are confident they will continue to do so throughout Summer Term 2. As leaders we are beginning to plan for September 2023 and further information regarding transition will be shared with you in the coming weeks.

As always we would like to thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to seeing you in and around school over the next half term.

SATs: As many of you will know the month of May brings with it Y2 and Y6 SATs. These are standardised assessments sat by children across the country and support in creating teacher assessments. Our children in both year groups applied themselves extremely well during this assessment period and demonstrated many of our school values; respect, independence, teamwork and resilience. We would like to thank and congratulate all of them for their hard work and determination.

Our Y6 SATs breakfast club was a huge success and it was great to see the children relaxed and having fun with friends each morning.

With that being said, we also need to thank the wonderful staff for making this happen.

School Council: This half term our School Council representatives have really worked hard to support school improvement and ensure pupil voice has a positive impact on our school environment.

They introduced 'Respect Stars' which are given to children across school as they are observed as being respectful. It has been great listening to the reasons each child has been nominated in assembly and sharing the importance of our value respect at a wider level.

There very own fund raising event... Over the Easter break School Council introduced a readathon competition and asked for creative reading nooks to showcase books read. This event raised a wonderful £270 which will be used to develop an outdoor reading area for children to enjoy at break times.

They have also been out in the community supporting school fundraising by asking local businesses if they would like to donate prizes for our Summer Fair.

HCAT TTRockStars Day was a huge success and we were the wining across the whole Trust, scoring the highest average point score out of all 6 primary schools! Well done Team Mapplewell! Class 9 also took home a 'Going for Gold' treat as our highest coring class in the school!

Walk to School Week was a huge success with many pupils taking home a certificate at the end of the week. It was a pleasure to see so many photographs shared on Twitter and talk to the children about why walking is good for us. Please keep this up as remember exercise is good for both the body and mind.

Art Gallery: What a pleasure it was to share our Art work with you in the gallery at the beginning of this half term. Thank you to all the parents / carers and family members who attended to celebrate their child's achievements.

Opening of the bike track: It was a pleasure to be invited to join in the celebrations, along with Ed Clancy as the new community bike track was opened. Year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed riding around the track and we are sure they will be visiting again with their families and friends.

Kings Coronation: We celebrated with the nation as the King was coronated by enjoying a tasty afternoon tea and creating art work in class. It was great to listen to the celebrations our children were having at home too and to talk about the importance of this national event.

To promote reading further and develop a love of reading across school we have introduced a new Reading Newsletter. We hope to see all out families engage with this.

Our sporting competitions continue as we embrace many activities across each year group.

Thank you to everyone who attended our last two coffee mornings. Your opinions and feedback are much appreciated and helpful in developing our school community further. Please see below the key areas discussed and actions to be taken to further strengthen communication.
