Corey Times January 30th, 2023

LATEST NEWS

The start of our second semester has provided us with an opportunity to gather valuable progress data as we assess students in the Middle of the Year assessments. We are committed in supporting all learners as they continue to grow and make individual gains towards high levels of mastery. We appreciate your continued support as we partner together for student success. Classroom teachers have provided information on how to support your child in reading, math, and Spanish language development. We have multiple programs that students can engage in that will provide individualized practice. Reading practice includes "Amplify", "RAZ Kids", as well as teacher specific homework. In Math, students can utilize "Imagine Math", "X-tra Math", "Speak Agent", and teacher specific homework. For Spanish language development, our students can utilize "Imagine Español". These are just a few of the resources available to us. Please make sure to maximize these opportunities for student learning.

Smiles in Schools

The Oral Health Improvement Program at the Texas Department of State Health Services selected our school to participate in the 2022-2023 Texas Oral Health Basic Screening Survey. The Oral Health Improvement Program conducts this survey every five years to assess the oral health of Texas children. A dental team from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) came to Corey this past week to give students in Kinder through Third Grade (with permission forms) a free dental screening. The information collected from this visit helps health officials understand and plan for the dental needs of children in our area. Qualifying students also received the following preventive services at no cost:

• Fluoride Varnish - a clear, protective coating to prevent new cavities. Helps stop the progression of small cavities.

• Dental Sealants - a thin, tooth-colored coating painted into the deep pits and grooves of the chewing surfaces that are hard to clean.

We are so thankful to the team who came out, volunteers who assisted, andNurse Jennifer for coordinating the visit.

For those who want to see documents (like the Corey Times) in Spanish, watch the video below. This video is in Spanish. All you need to do is hover over the title area, right-click and select "Translate to Spanish". The first time, if Spanish is not visible, click on the "three dots" and select the Spanish language. This will allow you to toggle between English and Spanish.

Safety reminders

The safety of our students, staff and visitors is always a priority at Corey Academy. We appreciate your support as we follow the safety guidelines during drop-off, campus visits, and pick-up. We have noticed a trend in which vehicles speed up as they drive through our drive (or into the parking lot). Please remember that the school zone speed limit is 20 m.p.h., but within our drive-way, the speed limit is 10 m.p.h. Also, please remember that the only area that student drop-off is allowed is on our main school drive. Students should not be dropped off in the parking lot to walk up unescorted, or in our secondary drive. We have staff members in the front of the building to assist in the safe drop-off of all students.

We thank you for your patience at pick-up in the afternoon, as we safely load students into their vehicles. Please make sure to display your family's number (and keep it on display) until your child/children are safely in the vehicle. Please make sure to provide this tag to family members who are in the approved "pick-up" list as needed.

attendance

We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.

In addition to the benefits to our students, attendance plays a key role in how our district (and school) is funded. Absences (excused or unexcused) are factored into our attendance rate as a campus.

Our attendance goal as a campus is to reach at least 96.8% of students present. We were unable to reach our Attendance Goal for the third Six Weeks. Our Attendance Rate was at 95.1%.

Please continue to bring your child/children to school daily (unless they are ill) so that we help them create positive habits that will be of value for the rest of their lives.

As part of our Attendance Incentive plan, each class colors in the word ATTENDANCE one letter at a time. They can color a letter when the class has "Perfect Attendance" for the day. Each class is working towards their own rewards when they have colored in the whole word. Several classes have won the trophy since the last Corey Times. A big congratulations to the following Perfect Attendance Classes: Ms. Ferguson, Ms. Chlup, Ms. Weber, Ms. Moon and Ms. Guardado.

Every month, we will also celebrate the class with the highest attendance rate for each grade level. Let's see who wins for the month of February!

kindness week

We are looking forward to all the fabulous activities planned for Kindness Week (February 13th-17th). A huge thank you to Mrs. Whittenberg (and all the volunteers) for all the work that has already gone into this event.

Our Corey Cubs were able to participate in the Kindness Campaign training event at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts, as more schools are given the opportunity to spread kindness in their communities. They performed "It's Time to be Kind", under the direction of our amazing Mr. Rosales, during the Kindness Campaign Event. Please take a moment to view the news coverage for the Kindness Campaign. We are so grateful to be involved in such a worthwhile effort.

AISD's "Puttin' on the Glitz" Celebration

Arlington ISD has intentionally invested time and resources in developing the outstanding leaders at each campus. We were so proud to join some of our staff members who serve in leadership roles such as Level Lead Teachers, Department Lead Teachers, and Instructional Coaches. We are so fortunate to have so many staff members with strong leadership skills at Corey. They fulfill a crucial role in the success of our students and our campus. AISD honored our teacher leaders during the "Putting on the Glitz" event.
