Summer term 2 2022 / 2023 Mapplewell primary school newsletter

As we draw to the end of the academic year I would firstly like to take a moment to thank you for your unwavering support over the past year. Your ongoing cooperation and encouragement has been greatly appreciated.

I'm thrilled to report that our pupils have excelled in their academic pursuits, with many achieving outstanding results across a range of subjects. But it's not just about grades - I'm equally proud of the well-rounded individuals that our students have become. They've shown great resilience, creativity, and compassion, and I'm confident that they'll go on to achieve further excellence in 2023 / 2024.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without our incredible team of teachers and support staff. Their passion, dedication, and tireless efforts are as always recognised. They work daily to shape young minds and create a nurturing environment where every child feels valued and supported.

I look forward to continuing our partnership as we work together as a school community to create a bright future for our wonderful pupils. However, as you are already aware I myself will be on maternity in the Autumn Term, and Mr Garrood will Acting Headteacher in my absence. Mr Garrood is an experienced and dedicated member of our school community, and I have every confidence that he will continue to provide exceptional leadership and guidance to our staff and pupils.

Have a wonderful summer, stay safe and happy!

Kind regards,

Mrs Padfield

In preparation for September

Please see below a few reminders that will help you to prepare for the September start.

Uniform expectations

We would like to remind our families of the uniform expectations at Mapplewell to ensure you are all well prepared for the Autumn Term.

We believe that the school uniform plays a crucial role in making pupils feel part of the school. Our uniform is practical and helps pupils maintain their pride in the school. All pupils from Nursery to Year 6 are expected to wear school uniform at all times.

Boys uniform: Black/Grey trousers or shorts, blue polo shirt and navy blue sweatshirt

Girls uniform: Black/Grey trousers or skirt (blue or grey tights), blue polo shirt and navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan (girls can also wear a blue and white gingham checked dress in the summer with white socks)

Shoes should be black and have a secure fastening. Girls are not permitted to wear heals. Items do not need to be branded; generic items that follow the above rules are accepted.

PE kit: Black shorts, white T-shirt with trainers or pumps. Please note that children can come to school wearing their PE kits, on their class PE day.

Jewellery should be kept to a minimum, for safety and security reasons. Pierced ears should have small studs only. No other piercings are permitted. Please avoid extreme hairstyles such as dying and shaved patterns. Hair that is shoulder length or longer must be tied back. Smart watches are not permitted. Nail varnish and artificial nails are not permitted.

School Lunches

Due to rising costs, the Local Authority who provide our School Meals have increased the cost per day of pupil meals. They will be implementing this increase from September 2023. Therefore, when we return to school in September 2023, the cost of a school dinner will increase to £2.50 per day.

If you think your child is entitled to Free School Meals please see the office for information on how to apply.

Parents/carers must pay in advance for the school meal by paying online via Arbor. Children will not be provided with a school meal unless it is paid for, except those who are entitled to free school meals. If a parent/carer genuinely forgets to pay in advance, the school will grant a debt allowance of ONE meal. However this debt must be paid on the next school day and future meals must be paid for in advance before any meal is provided. If the debt is not cleared, parents/carers must provide a packed lunch.

School Menus for the academic year will be updated as appropriate on the school website.

E-Cigarettes and Vaping / Dogs on the School Grounds

We respectfully ask that e-cigarettes/vapes are not used on school grounds when dropping off and collecting children. We would also like to remind families that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds at any point.

Things to share and celebrate...

We continue to promote reading across school and love to see our children hooked in a book. Over the Summer Term we have promoted the Summer Reading Challenge and it has been a great to see so many children already sign up!
