LATEST NEWS
The month of February is special for so many reasons. We honor the contributions of African Americans in multiple fields during Black History Month. We have shown our appreciation towards Mrs. Young, our counselor, during National School Counseling week. We have participated in Kids' Heart Challenge, celebrated the 100th Day of School, enjoyed our PTA sponsored "Souper Bowl" luncheon, and had four teams compete in the Mid-Cities Regional Destination Imagination tournament.
Mr. Rosales and Mrs. Phelps (with Coach Crocker's support) were the recipients of a grant for $8,250 from AISD's Education Foundation to purchase a cyclorama. This week we are gearing up to celebrate Kindness Week, with art projects, the Magic Mirror and a visit form a therapy dog. This is only for the first half of the month! We still have many fun activities coming up (Third Grade Dance Recital, School Dance). It is sure good to be a Corey Cub!
Black History Month
Corey Academy has come together to celebrate Black History Month. We are so thankful to our volunteers for helping us decorate our classroom doors, as we honor the contributions of different African Americans in multiple fields. We partnered with our Corey PTA as we enjoyed our Black History program this past week. We would like to thank our Corey PTA (in particular Mrs. Bethany White Turner) for making this event possible. We appreciate our parent volunteers, Multicultural Committee (led by Mr. Frausto and Mrs. White), and our 5th Grade team for leading our Music Mania. The winning song was Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody". Our students sure enjoyed dancing around during the Music Mania rounds!
We were so touched and moved by our 5th Graders as they read poetry from famous African Americans. Thank you, Iman A., Max T., David P., Oliver G., Aeriuane S., and Layla P. for your heart-felt delivery.
We also enjoyed a performance from the step team, "Xplosive Grenades". Stomp Wars founder and creator Rocky "Rock-T" Turner (and Gunn alumni), shared information about Stomp Wars. Stomp Wars is a national step competition that was created to inspire youth and young adults to "STOMP down the negative barriers and to look to the future with a positive mindset." We even learned a simple stepping routine.
Please come by the cafeteria to scan QR codes for perfomances from our Kinder, First and Second Graders. We will be sending information this week on how to vote for your favorite door for our door decorating contes.
Please take a moment to read some additional information about Black History Month (including activities for young children).

destination imagination
We are so proud of our four teams that participated in the Mid-Cities Regional Destination Imagination tournament this past weekend. Each team competed in a Team Challenge and Instant Challenge.
Please see information below about Destination Imagination Challenges:
"Destination Imagination Challenges are the prompts or guidelines for what a team creates. Our Challenges are open-ended, allowing teams to express themselves creatively and take full ownership of their solutions. Challenges are designed to teach the creative process—a system of learning that is at the root of innovation and a child’s ability to bring an idea to life."
Our teams competed in "Flip The Script" and "Play On". We are so proud of the dedication and commitment of team members, parents, involved staff, and managers. Our team managers (and co-managers) volunteer countless hours to support their teams. Students showcased their problem solving skills, acting skills, creativity and team-work. Way to go Corey Cubs.
The Cotton Candy Cream Team
The Cotton Candy Cream Team competed in "Flip the Script". Team members are: Laith, Alejandro, Annabelle, Eliana, Penny, Ryan, and Amaya. Team Manager: Mrs. Alrashaideh Co-Manager: Mrs. Ellis.

The Musical Six
The Musical Six Team participated in "Play On". Team members are: Mackenzie A., Julian C., James H., Benjamin M., Kaycie S., and Jayleen S. Team Manager: Ms. Carlton.
The "Play on Challenge" is an Early Learning experience. Students are not ranked, but given feedback fromt the judges at this early stage. The Musical Six Team received lots of compliments and positive feedback from the judges.

The Harry Enchanted Pizza Corgilotls team competed in "Flip the Script". Team members are: Jainara A., Amelia M., Lizzy B., Joaquin T., Max C. , and Ulyana C. Team Manager: Mrs. Talamantez Co-Manager: Mrs. Alraishadeh.
The Harry Enchanted Pizza Corgilotls team ranked 7th. They showed great resilience and determination as they overcame some initial technical difficulties. They included piano playing and dance in their performance, demonstrating how attending a Fine Arts Academy and all they learn carries over into their outside activities as well!
The Kindful Cubs
The Kindful Cubs competed in "Flip the Script". Team members are: Brooklyn H., Johanna D., Tyler A., Reid R., Luke F., Brady F. Team Manager: Mrs. Ferguson Co-Manager: Mrs. Richardson.

AISD Education Foundation
Mr. Rosales and Mrs. Phelps (with the help and support of Coach Crocker) applied for, and were awarded, $8,250 from the Arlington ISD Education Foundation.
These funds will be used for the purchase and installation of a cyclorama curtain. We look forward to even more amazing productions!
We are incredibly grateful to the Arlington ISD Education Foundation for their continued support of AISD and this generous donation.
attendance
We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.
In addition to the benefits to our students, attendance plays a key role in how our district (and school) is funded. Absences (excused or unexcused) are factored into our attendance rate as a campus.
Our attendance goal as a campus is to reach at least 96.8% of students present. We were unable to reach our Attendance Goal for the fourth Six Weeks. Our Attendance Rate was at 95.8%.
Please continue to bring your child/children to school daily (unless they are ill) so that we help them create positive habits that will be of value for the rest of their lives.
As part of our Attendance Incentive plan, each class colors in the word ATTENDANCE one letter at a time. They can color a letter when the class has "Perfect Attendance" for the day. Each class is working towards their own rewards when they have colored in the whole word. Several classes have won the trophy since the last Corey Times. A big congratulations to the following Perfect Attendance Classes: Ms. Weber, Ms. Flores, Ms. Moon.
Every month, we will also celebrate the class with the highest attendance rate for each grade level. Let's see who wins for the month of February!
brightbytes survey
Please see important information below about AISD's Technology Survey:
Arlington ISD is now conducting its annual technology and learning questionnaire in order to learn more about the technology use of our students both at school and at home. We encourage all parents, students (grades 3-12) and teachers to participate.
The data received will help the district make the best possible technology decisions for the future.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to participate in the survey, which is available in English and in Spanish. Your response will:
Remain anonymous to protect your privacy
Provide valuable input to the district about families’ access to and use of technology.
Parents and guardians with students at multiple Arlington ISD campuses should only complete one survey for whichever campus they prefer.
The survey will take between five to ten minutes to complete. Questionnaires must be completed by Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Please access the survey at this link: https://bit.ly/brightbytes2023
