LATEST NEWS
We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Spring Break with family and friends! We love to hear from students as they tell us about their break, and know that this time off has helped us recharge as we prepare to finish the semester strong. We have had so many memorable events so far this month, such as our Second Grade Piano Recital, Open House, Youth Art Month, and our First Grade video performance at the Board Meeting.
Kinder Cohort 2023-2024
We are thrilled to welcome our 2023-2024 Kinder Cohort. Acceptance emails were sent out earlier this month, and we are eager to welcome them into the Corey family! We will be hosting our Kinder Registration on April 18th or 19th (based on last names) for those families that have been accepted into the program for next school year. Last names beginning with A-H will attend on April 18th and last names beginning with letters I-Z will attend on April 19th. On those evenings we will make sure that registration is complete, teachers will begin to get to know students, we will have tours of the building and answer questions. Please remember that this event is only for our 2023-2024 Kinder Cohort.
We have had some questions about transferring students in First through Fifth Grade. Arlington ISD may open a special transfer window later on this school year, but we do not have any additional information at this time. The process for this special transfer is different from the Kinder application process. Transfer students would need to fill out an application, be assessed for Spanish language proficiency, submit grades/report cards and teacher recommendation. We will share more information as it becomes available.
Piano Recital
We are so appreciative of All Saints Lutheran Church for allowing us to use their facilities for our Second Grade Piano Recital on March 4th. This was the perfect setting to come together to showcase our talented students. We are so impressed with the perseverance, dedication and courage shown by our Second Graders. Thank you, Mrs. Phelps, for being an outstanding piano teacher, the MI Team for supporting (as usual) and the Second Grade Team for their commitment to their students. We even had a special guest, Mr. Cubela (Piano Teacher at Gunn FADL Academy and JH) who came out to join us and to delight us with his talent. We would also like to thank the parents and guardians for making sure that students had a memorable day.
For those who want to see documents (like the Corey Times) in Spanish, watch the video below. This video is in Spanish. All you need to do is hover over the title area, right-click and select "Translate to Spanish". The first time, if Spanish is not visible, click on the "three dots" and select the Spanish language. This will allow you to toggle between English and Spanish.
Youth Art month
The Arlington Museum of Art is featuring Arlington ISD artists now through March 23rd as they celebrate Youth Art Month. Some of our Corey Cubs have art pieces that are part of this exhibit. We are so impressed with the level of talent shown! Ms. Carbuccia and Mrs. Ray support our Cubs as they creatively express themselves in 2D and 3D Art. Please read information below about Yourth Art Month.
first grade mozart
Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 31st, 1685. In honor of his birthday month, our First Graders were asked to be a part of Arlington ISD's March 7th Board Meeting. Our students worked diligently during piano class to learn a portion of JS Bach's Minuet in G Major. A video of their performance was shown at the Board Meeting, and a group of students was able to join the meeting representing Corey. We would like to thank Mrs. Phelps, for preparing our students so well, our parents for their support, Mrs. Gonzalez for coming out to help, and Spence for the video. I hope you are ready for some cuteness overload!!! Please take a moment to watch the video below.
open house
We were amazed by the turn-out for our Open House before Spring Break! Our students were so proud to be able to showcase some of the projects that they have been working on this school year. We had many projects that integrated the Fine Arts with our core curriculum, which empowers our students, allows for student ownership, solidifies conceptual understanding, and allows for creativity and self-expression. Our students were also able to demonstrate their progress in Spanish, as they continue to grow academically and in their proficiency of Spanish. We appreciate the involvement and family support. Our staff is also extremely thankful to our PTA for providing a pasta and salad bar prior to the event and for helping us prepare during the "Donuts and Deeds" volunteer event. Corey is truly a special place!
attendance
We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.
In addition to the benefits to our students, attendance plays a key role in how our district (and school) is funded. Absences (excused or unexcused) are factored into our attendance rate as a campus.
Our attendance goal as a campus is to reach at least 96.8% of students present. We were unable to reach our Attendance Goal for the fourth Six Weeks. Our Attendance Rate was at 95.8%.
Please continue to bring your child/children to school daily (unless they are ill) so that we help them create positive habits that will be of value for the rest of their lives.
We have decided to have a little "friendly competition" for attendance every Six Weeks by grade level. We have the results for the attendance for the Fourth Six Weeks. Please take a moment look over your child's or children's grade level. Congratulations to our winners for this Six Weeks: Second Grade!
