LATEST NewS
Corey Academy presents such unique opportunities for our students. Our Corey Cubs continue to excel academically and in their acquisition of Spanish. As we walk classrooms, we are continuously impressed with how much they understand, and how they become more comfortable daily in communicating in Spanish. Our Fifth Graders were practicing their conversational Spanish during Spanish Club the other day, as they acted out "mini-dramas". We also see students justifying their answers in Spanish in all grade levels.
Students also continue to develop their ability to act and to speak in public, whether in Theatre class, or in the classroom with Arts Integrated lessons. One of our very favorite activities is to see our First Graders during the Wax Museum. Students completed research on a famous person, and then "came alive" during the Wax Museum. We were so impressed!
wax museum
We learned about so many interesting historical figures during our recent First Grade Wax Museum. Our First Graders came alive as singers, astronauts, athletes, authors, entrepeneurs, artists, scientists, and many others. An event such as this is possible due to the dedication of our amazing First Grade team of teachers, as well as our parents and guardians as they supported our First Graders in rehearsing their presentations and in transforming them into these famous individuals. What creativity! Please enjoy a few of the pictures below.
For those who want to see documents (like the Corey Times) in Spanish, watch the video below. This video is in Spanish. All you need to do is hover over the title area, right-click and select "Translate to Spanish". The first time, if Spanish is not visible, click on the "three dots" and select the Spanish language. This will allow you to toggle between English and Spanish.
levitt pavilion
We are so thrilled about tonight's performance at the Levitt Pavilion. This is our campus-wide celebration that we look forward to all school year. We have been sending out reminders, but just in case wanted to share information one last time. Please see message below from Multiple Intelligence team:
Levitt is tonight, April 6th. We just wanted to provide a digital copy of the last information letter sent out in case there were any last minute questions: https://tinyurl.com/23LevittReminder
If you have not submitted the Levitt Information Form (https://tinyurl.com/2023Levitt), we have left it open so all our students who will be attending will have a faster check-in tomorrow evening in holding. All students should be brought to holding at 5:30 and checked in by their parent/guardian.
Don't forget: food trucks open at 5pm!!
Please remember that students need to be picked up from the holding area immediately after they perform. Also, please remember that students may not eat in the holding area, so please make sure to have them eat prior do dropping them off at holding at 5:30 p.m.
Fieldtrips
Our students look forward to fieldtrips throughout the year. Our Kinder students enjoyed a fieldtrip to Texas Discovery Gardens in Dallas, while our First Graders enjoyed a trip to the Fort Worth Zoo. Our Third Graders enjoyed a trip to the Planetarium, while our Fifth Graders visited the Perot Museum. We would like to thank all our volunteers for taking time off to accompany us. We would also like to thank our Corey Cubs PTA for generously donating money to contribute to our fieldtrip costs.
uIL competition
This past weekend our Corey Cubs participated in the UIL District Meet in the areas of Art (5th Grade), Chess Puzzle (4th and 5th Grade), Creative Writing (2nd Grade), Dictionary Skills (5th Grade), Music Memory (4th Grade), Oral Reading (4th and 5th Grade) and Storytelling (2nd Grade). We are so proud of all our participants for representing us so well! Their hard work and dedication are to be commended! We would also like to thank various staff members who coached our teams: Mrs. Kelley, Ms. Ready, Mr. Cannon, Mrs. Hayden, Ms. Davila and Mrs. Talamantez. Thank you for pouring into our students as we develop multiple skills and talents! We are thankful to Mrs. Talamantez for coordinating our efforts, and for Mary Moore Elementary for hosting the event.
All our students did so well, but we would like to take a moment to highlight some of our students who placed top three in their categories. A special shout-out to our students in the Storytelling event who all made it to the final round.
attendance
We would like to continue to partner with you in making sure that students are at school on time and ready to learn every day (unless they are ill). Students benefit both socially and academically as they attend school daily. Our teachers plan highly engaging lessons that benefit students as they make academic gains, acquire language skills (in both English and Spanish) and interact with peers and adults appropriately.
In addition to the benefits to our students, attendance plays a key role in how our district (and school) is funded. Absences (excused or unexcused) are factored into our attendance rate as a campus.
Our attendance goal as a campus is to reach at least 96.8% of students present. We were unable to reach our Attendance Goal for the fourth Six Weeks. Our Attendance Rate was at 95.8%.
Please continue to bring your child/children to school daily (unless they are ill) so that we help them create positive habits that will be of value for the rest of their lives.

AISD Education Celebration at Six Flags Over Texas

For those of you unfamiliar with the event, it is a private night at Six Flags - meaning we have the park to ourselves! Tickets are sold for $30 each and $5 of each ticket goes directly back to the school of the purchaser’s choice. This can be a great fundraiser for your school - in 2021, we had individual campuses make up to $4,500!
