Corey Times May 7th, 2023

LATEST NewS

This year has flown by so quickly! I can't believe that it is now May, and we are in our last month of school. I must admit that I am quite emotional as I experience many of these events for the "last time" as Principal. My heart is full, as I witness our students' talent, their perseverance in STAAR and EOY Testing, our supportive community and the dedication of our staff.

Our students have shared their incredible talents by dancing at the AISD Family Expo Fair, singing at Dr. Cavazos' Retirement Celebration, showcasing their amazing artistic talent at Corey's Fourth Grade Art Show, as well as performing and showcasing our writing and art for our Second Grade "Wonder Woman" event. Our Gifted and Talented students displayed great creativity in the GT showcase. We enjoyed our STEAM Family Night, and celebrated our volunteers. We also had a high number of finalists for the What's Your Big Idea Contest. We were awarded "Top Participating School" honors once more! A special shout out to Cora R. for being a 3rd Place winner in the Essay contest.

Dr. Cavazos' Retirement celebration

Our Corey Cubs Chorus, under the direction of Mr. Rosales, performed in honor of Dr. Cavazos during his Retirement Celebration. They did an outstanding job showing our appreciation for his many years of service to AISD!

Our Gifted and Talented students were hard at work completing their various projects for the year. We would like to thank Mrs. Talamantez, our GT Lead Teacher, for helping our students grow and explore interesting topics.

Fourth Grade Art Show

Corey Academy turned into an Art Gallery to showcase our talented Fourth Grade students. Thank you, Ms. Carbuccia and Mrs. Ray, for helping our artists grow in their artistic abilities. It was uncanny to be able to recognize our students by their self-portraits, without even having to look at the names! We were entertained by solo pianists and the Corey Percussion Ensemble. What an exceptional display of talent!

volunteer appreciation

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all our volunteers for the countless ways they support our campus. Our volunteers help us decorate our doors, make bulletin boards, work in the workroom, actively participate in the PTA or Dad's Club, help us with our class parties, help us make graphics (and Corey Attendance Bears), help us with "Lost and Found", accompany us on fieldtrips as chaperones, help us stay safe by clearing the ice off our windshields, help us during crossing duty and to welcome students. The list goes on and on! We could not do our work without your support! We would like to thank our Sunshine Committee (with the help of Mrs. Alrashaideh) for hosting our Volunteer Breakfast. This is a tiny thank you for the HUGE impact you have in our lives!

Please take a moment to view this video with just a "snippet" of some of our volunteers.
