Corey Times May 22nd, 2023

LATEST NewS

As the year comes to an end, I can't believe this is the last "official" Corey Times for this year. This is quite a bittersweet moment for me, because I have loved sharing all the Corey news with you these past four years. This marks one of the many "lasts" for me as Principal, and I can't help but get a little (or a lot) emotional! I have been honored to be a part of the Corey community, and I thank you for your support and partnership over these past four years. Corey is truly a special place! You all hold a special place in my heart.

This edition includes Career Day, Senior Reception, Talent Show, Kickball Tournament with Jones, AT&T Art Show, and many more. We have been so busy, but loved every minute of it!

career day

Our Career Day was quite an event! A huge thank you to Mrs. Young for the numerous hours invested in making this event come true. We would also like to thank all the volunteers and the presenters. Our students have been provided with information about so many careers and they continue to explore the many choices for their future. The sky is the limit!

Please take a moment to view the fun Career Day video created to celebrate the event!

Senior reception

We hosted a special reception for Corey Academy's alumni (and graduating Seniors). We are so proud of their many accomplishments, and look forward to hearing all the wonderful things they will accomplish in the future. We were joined by several retired staff members who came out to celebrate our Seniors 2023, as well as many of our staff members who taught these young men and women. They read letters they had written to themselves as 6th grade Corey students, and connected with peers and teachers. What a special moment!

For those who want to see documents (like the Corey Times) in Spanish, watch the video below. This video is in Spanish. All you need to do is hover over the title area, right-click and select "Translate to Spanish". The first time, if Spanish is not visible, click on the "three dots" and select the Spanish language. This will allow you to toggle between English and Spanish.

spanish practice - summer

We wanted to inform you that the district has made an exciting opportunity available to your children during the summer. Imagine Español, a Spanish app found in Rapid Identity that offers a chance to practice and enhance their Spanish language skills. It is crucial for them to continue practicing during the break to ensure they don't lose their progress. The Imagine Español app focuses on four essential language domains: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. By engaging in regular practice, your children can further develop their Spanish proficiency in all these areas. We highly recommend allocating at least 2 to 3 sessions per week for them to work with the app as a minimum. By utilizing Imagine Español, your children can maintain their language skills and even make significant progress during the summer months. It's an excellent way to reinforce what they have learned and foster continued growth. Thank you for your support in encouraging your children to take advantage of this valuable resource. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Please see flyer below from Ms. Conrad, our Dual Language Specialist.

Corey students take a Spanish Language Proficiency Test every year (AVANT Test). Please be on the look-out for a report in your child's report card/Skillbook, as well as a letter explaining the language targets.

talent show

Our Corey PTA hosted Corey Academy's Talent Show! We are in awe of the talent our Corey Cub's demonstrated. We had singers, dancers, stand-up comedians, gymnasts, cheerleaders, piano performances, and many more. It was a night to remember!

Fifth Grade Fieldtrip to old city park

Our Fifth Graders enjoyed their last fieldtrip of the year to Old City Park. In spite of the rain, they enjoyed learning about the living conditions in the past (and experiencing it first hand). We would like to thank our volunteers for taking the time to accompany us on our fieldtrips!

dallas cowboys art collection

Our Fifth Grade students created a collaborative art project showcasing Corey Academy's exterior for Dallas Cowboys' Art Collection. This was made possible by the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Arlington Youth Foundation as they showcased Arlington ISD's 5th, 8th, and Art IVstudents at the AT&T Stadium. Ms. Carbuccia and Mrs. Ray coached our 5th Graders as they completed their outstanding piece of art. It was a sight to behold! Our "ambassadors" hosted visitors at the art show, including Dr. Cavazos, our Superintendent, and Dr. Anderson, Director of Fine Arts for Arlington, ISD.

Teacher appreciation

We are so thankful to our Corey PTA and all our families who generously donated to make our staff feel so appreciated during Teacher Appreciation week. We enjoyed a Lumberjack Breakfast, a Teacher Survivial Kit, a S'mores Bar, a Trail Mix Bar, BBQ Lunch, presents and notes of appreciation. We have no words to express the gratitude we feel for this outpouring of love for our staff. Thank you!!!!!

aisd Volunteer luncheon

Arlington ISD's Family & Community Engagement Department hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon recently. We could not function well at Corey Academy without the countless hours invested by our volunteers in helping us daily. We see all the effort, and are truly appreciative of all the help. These acts of kindness do not go unnoticed! At this luncheon, we honored our volunteers with the highest number of volunteer hours, our Campus Star Volunteers (Ms. Wise and Ms. Caldwell). We were also able to honor Mrs. Alrashaideh, our Volunteer Coordinator. We enjoyed the taco bar, perfomances by the Sam Houston Mariachi and Dancers, as well as the recognition speeches. Thank you!
